Dexter: season 5 Dexter: season 5

The whole scene in the marsh was really odd imo.

Did Dexter throw the knife with his blood on it into the marsh next to all the barrels full of bodies? Sure looked like it to me.

Dexter needs to have high stakes to work and the stakes in this episode were incredibly low. They made a big mistake casting Julia Stiles as Lumen because it is clear that she will be a key part of the season from the very beginning, which means we will spend most of the middle episodes spinning our wheels.

He took the knife out of her hand after she started crying and being all emo. Then takes it away to beside/behind him.

Next with Dex is with the girl treating his wound in the back of his SUV.

looks like this season will be half Kill Bill half Dexter

oops, didn't quote the right post but my wife is def right about this. Boyd didn't abduct her, and almost surely not the others. he bought them, maybe didn't even torture them and really was putting them out of their misery ( I mean, and obviously satisfying his own sociopathic urges). So they're gonna go kill the people renting chicks out for torture, etc, obviously.

edit. and likely kill some renters, too. really could be a great season.

I agree it's not far-fetched that lumen(?) didn't get in the car with 4 strange men. It's not like we're supposed to believe she logically made the decision to go with Dexter, she just got freaked out. I think it even makes sense without knowing she's been ****ed up by multiple people (most likely men).

Are people not talking about the letter from her family about how they want her home?

Not about how she said there are others, which obv means the above?

Oh ****, I forgot I missed part of the letter scene. I only heard the part where her mother missed her and wanted her to come home. I'll have to go stream the show and watch that part but I just assumed she ran away (no missing person report, luggage in hotel), for whatever reason, maybe serious and maybe not. Given the part where she said Dexter might sell her, I think it's obvious Boyd bought her but I have to rewatch to know if it's more likely he bought from randoms or her family.

very obvious that the animal cleanup guy was infact killing abused woman. he said it right before he died. surfur is spot on.

also some foreshadowing on the nanny with the whole 'trust' theme. shes obviously going to find out something that shes not supposed to. gail is also likely to get fired and go standard ex-cop redemption mode trying to prove is theory, and will likely have dexter break his code of no innocents.
10-19-2010 , 01:37 AM
Okay, watched the parts I'd missed. I'm not sure on specifics now but I think boyd is either killing abused women, in general or buying women who have been/would be abused by other purchasers/renters, w/e.

edit. I also think it's unlikely the family was involved in her torture/killing. Maybe she was abused, maybe she had sex with the football team and her dad called her a slut...who knows. :P

i thought it was a pretty poorly written episode overall... the quin tailgate to find the family in witness protection in like 2 minutes... angel apology in 2 minutes (even though IA is still pressing charges)... dexter being able to break open a door in 1 min that the girl couldn't for 2 days... so far the season has been kind of mediocre but obv still gonna watch it.

obviously they were several persons to hurt/whatever the girls in the basement. Now the story goes somewhere, at least for Dex.

Pretty sick that Deb misses that shot, the guy is like 2 meters from her tops, wtf.

Decent episode, loved the last sentence which finally opens the season to something intresting.

I don't really remember if Dexter has a history of screwing up police scenes...

but I thought it was ridiculous that they had the cops do the raid unprepared. Deb deciding to barge into the room with the criminals alone was unrealistic. The whole scene was extremely bad imo.

It is a standard TV thing, cant really blame Dexter too much for what is considered normal.

However its worth pointing out that Deb gave Dexter a verbal kicking for going in ahead of SWAT on the house of Trinity last season when all the name character cops were stood outside waiting, lol consistency

Also for anyone who has seen these kind of scenes hundreds of times before that one was especially bad given they didnt lockdown the perimeter, Deb didnt call in the transfer to the next apartment (essentially widening the search perimeter), she was alone when rooms are cleared in twos and then she called clear instead of giving a distress code (whether standard protocol or just something she made up on the spot). Im also not sure how she managed to not empty the clip into the guy after he slit the kids throat and tried to go out the window.

Pinch of salt etc, but it was pretty goofy how they wrote and directed that scene.

heh yeah that scene couldve been much better.

I can't remember if Dexter has a history of shoddy writing in random parts throughout the series but this season is full of them.

big +1 wrt that scene.

Harrison out-acting Astor, Cody and Stiles IMO

Seeing Harrison smile is kinda creepy (especially that first scene with the Nanny). Being that he's Dexters kid and should've inherited some creepy genes, he's killin' this role.

Harrison deserves an oscar.

I hope the Quinn-Dexter storyline progresses tonight, not really interested in the Lumen-Dexter story for whatever reason.
