The Deuce, HBO+David Simon+Pr0n industry plot - OOTV -- Two Plus Two Poker Forums

The Deuce is an upcoming American television drama series set in and around Times Square, New York. Created and written by author and former police reporter David Simon along with frequent collaborator George Pelecanos

The Deuce tells the story of the legalization and ensuing rise of the porn industry in New York beginning in the 1970s. Themes explored include the rise of HIV, the violence of the drug epidemic and the resulting real estate booms and busts that coincided with the change.

Got me some high hopes for this one.

I read about this some time ago, I like Franco too so I have high expectations. Also it'll be great to see D'Angelo, Slim Charles and Chris Partlow again in a David Simon show!

+1, although my reasoning is mainly that I want Twin Peaks to be over before starting this.

Also, it seems that many people strongly dislike James Franco, but I can't quite figure out why. Personally I love the guy and having him play the lead(s) in this show is pretty exciting in itself (not David Simon being the showrunner-level exciting though).

Pilot was fantastic. They're really nailing the early 70's city feel, and production quality is A+. I especially love that they made a point of having trash everywhere.

This was...ok. My problem with it is that it seems to relying too much on the amazing recreation of early 70s Times Square and less on interesting characters. There's rarely a pump or whore who is going to be interesting enough not to be a cliche, for me. Maggie G. Is always good, but her character - the whore with a heart of gold - is a massive cliche. And what's with Lori coming to NY to be a whore? She moving up to the big leagues, or something?

Vincent excepting his brother's debt is also a bit ridiculous. Why would he agree to that?

Anyway, I'll keep watching, hoping the characters get more interesting.

The young college student has promise.
