The Deuce, HBO+David Simon+Pr0n industry plot - Page 9

Have you guys ever watched any David Simon show? If so, did you like it/them? Cause saying things like it's slow and there's no plot doesn't make any sense, especially after four episodes.

Grunching, as I'm not quite through S1 yet. Binged most of it in a couple days though. A few things:

-I can't stop watching. LOL at people saying nothing happens. This **** is great. So many interesting characters and the world we're immersed in is quite compelling to me.

-WTF with the Treme hate ITT. Another show I could not stop watching. I think some of you should stick to basic cable bs.

-David Simon for President.

It's been a while but I remember Treme being boring and seemed pointless even tho there was a lot to like my interest waned. This show is awesome and is basically about the degen scene of NYC in the 70s. You basically get a time warp into a world that doesn't exist anymore, it's pretty awesome to a history geek like me.

I agree, Treme was great but it was kind of missing a raison d'etre. This show feels similar too.

At least with the Wire we had the broad arc of cops trying to arrest drug dealers, and then the amazingly written backdrop of the streets. In the later shows we still get the great backdrops, but the arc is missing. We need a protagonist and a quest, even if it's not a great one.

McNulty was kind of a ****, but his five season quest to 'make a difference' was the reason the Wire was a thing.

First part - Speak for yourself, I do not need such bs and neither did Treme iyam.

Second - False. The city of Baltimore and its flawed systems/inhabitants were the reason The Wire was 'a thing'. /derail

Loved the first two seasons, can't wait for the third. Maggie G is killing it!

Was marathoning the show to get ready for the new season and all of a sudden I get seaon 3 ep 1 on demand. I'm surprised this wasn't bumped yet. I haven't seen the new ep yet. It's gonna be hard waiting a full week between eps lol.

Meh, hope Shae is dead. She has been the most boring character all 3 seasons.

Are we meant to know who the guy with Melissa at the end was?

Interesting to see where the building owner storyline goes. Maybe ties to mafia.I guess Eileen found her financier.

Strongly disagree on this one. This was always going to be a 3 season show, and the plans for the characters' fates were largely mapped out from the start.

They were discussing the method of suicide for Lori before they shot season 1.

nothing was on so i randomly threw the end of that ep on after quitting the show during s1 and it reminded me of michael scott trying to pull a gat in every improv scene, didn't realize it was the penultimate ep lol

This show never recovered from the pimps being gone. It's been pretty uneven. Sometimes this show is about NYC, sometimes it is about the porn industry. The backdrop hasn't meshed together like it did in The Wire. I thought this season would be great and I thought it got off to a good start but it has kind of fizzled. It goes back to my first comment, the pimps carried this show and the other characters weren't strong enough to take over. This show is still solid, but I expected great.

In other news David Simon is doing a 6 part miniseries for HBO called "The Plot Against America". It will star Kinish, Winona Ryder and Aundrea from The Deuce.

Got to agree with the above, I'd have to do a rewatch to confirm but this feels like the weakest season. Where the **** is Larry Brown? Can't believe they cut him out completely
