To me it is better than Wire/Sopranos in that you don't have to go online as much to keep track of the characters. The acting is first rate and the sex scenes/nudity are groundbreaking even for HBO. The gratuitous smoking is annoying but abates somewhat in the later episodes.
The show is more about developing the characters than action/violence. Feel free to watch a stupid bullet dodging movie if that is your thing. And yes Treme was lame.
RU4REALBRO? Some people don't like a show you like and you attribute that to that they're so racist they can't enjoy black characters portrayed complexly, and thus can likely only enjoy action movies?
The smoking complaint is pretty fkn random too, it's obviously a choice for authenticity.
Fwiw I thought this show was fantastic
