this is, hands down, my favorite show ever on television. the writing, acting and production are all superlative. milch makes poetry out of profanity.

Deadwood is an amazing show, one of my all-time favorites, but it's simply total BS that HBO pulled the plug on it without a final season, or a proper resolution.

I agree...this thread inspired me to rewatch the series. I have only 4 episodes left (totally forgot Wyatt Earp was a character). I don't remember how it ends, but I know I'm gonna be left unsatisfied.

the first few seasons were amazing but it seemed to get a little repetitive in the last season and I can see why they took it off the air.

I somehow managed to miss Deadwood until a couple weeks ago. Still have one season to go, but as of right now I would say it's my third favorite series of all time, behind The Wire and Rome.

Does anyone have the "complete series" DVD? Wiki says that there is commentary on there by Milch saying what would of happened in season 4.

Actual God chimes in at post #28 and later talks a bit about working for Milch etc.

Just watched the entire series for the first time over the past couple weeks.

Great show.

Last season was definitely a bit jumbled in places. Like they were juggling too many balls in air and then someone pulled the rug out from under them and they had to quickly catch them all. Did they know they would have to end the series when they started the season?

not really a spoiler but a note on the final ep.

Spoiler:
In the end, a worthy finale if not a bit disappointing and an epic final line.

Agree, "stand it like a man and give some back" might be my favorite scene in TV history

FWIW I just read Milch's new script for "Luck" and it's amazing

Trixie the Whore is also on Caprica.

I'm sure it's pretty awesome that what's likely the best work of your career will be as "Trixie The Whore" and perhaps the most memorable moment involve you being called a "loopy ****".

finished watching this for the second time - doesn't have the depth of the sopranos or the breadth of the wire, but unlike both it doesn't feel like the show is manipulating me, either - it doesn't need anything from me. it's not picking a side and asking me to do so as well. in all, it's a great show and i'm upset that unlike both the wire and the sopranos that i didn't find it until it went off the air for good.

i will now commence attempting to loan out my DVDs to friends - this show needs to be seen by more people.

2nd best show ever (The Wire) and to me, the best written piece of TV/Cinema ever.

There may have never been - or will ever be - a better side character than Richardson. When he's against the wall in the hotel stairway with the antlers raised up in prayer ... priceless.

Richardson was awesome. Any dialogue between he and Farnum was memorable.

That two minutes is some of the best writing in the history of TV imo
