As much as I loved EO in JFC we're really lucky HBO put a stop to him as al. I can't imagine deadwood without him.

I had no idea that the same actor played the rich snobby guy and Hickok's assassin.

I started watching this and got to ep 4 or 5 of season 2 and stopped. It just seemed to me nothing was happening to make me really put on the next episode. I just started watching Dexter and I can't put season 1 down, I don't get that feeling with Deadwood. I may go back and rewatch it and maybe the great stuff starts after I stopped.

It's snobby, but I immediately think people aren't smart when they don't like or "get" Deadwood

Absolutely this! She stole the show in ep 1 of Season 2

Waiting for Al to comeout with Bullocks gun and badge.

"It's hard pick the gown that best conceales you just done pissed yourself"

Then when Star comes out drugged up with his arm in a sling to help out Bullock, Utter, and Jane:

"Wow...a hardware jew at less than full force, we're gonna have them shaking in their boots now."

She is also a fantastic actress on a show not short on talent. To all that don't like her: "You can go **** yourself"

I love Deadwood and certainly don't want to come accross as a hater, but one really grating aspect of the show for me was the use of inanimate objects/animals/mute hookers/Sophia as interlocutors. I understand its just a convention, but the sheer amount of time characters spent talking at something felt overwrought to me. Just a bit heavy on the monologue overall, which is not to say some weren't great, just that they came to have a "here we go again" feel to them.

Still, great show. The build-up to Dan v the Captain, and the fight itself, is about as gripping as tv gets.

Oh, and just because it needs at least one vote in this thread, The Sopranos > Deadwood/The Wire

it's real close between sopranos and the wire for me, might even start a thread about it soon. deadwood's best stuff may even be better than the best moments of those shows, but.. yeah, like you said.

Wire > Sopranos > Deadwood...and yeah this deserves a thread. If it was just a season one debate we can throw JFC in there.

I would say Wire >> Deadwood >>> Sopranos.

i take Sopranos over Deadwood, Sopranos had 6 seasons and didn't have as many bad episodes as Deadwood. The eps where Al got sick and couldn't talk come to mind. The were some weak ones in season 3 too.

From an acting and writing perspective Deadwood is way better though.

Laughably untrue. Sopranos was good for one "David Chase gets too damn creative" ep once per season. They wasted like half a season on Vito's gay holiday. There's a decent amount of forgettable Sopranos eps.

The answer is Wire >> Deadwood >>>> Sopranos.

Vito eps a weren't best of the series, but I think wast is too strong. My point is really that the Sopranos maintained it's greatness through six seasons better than Deadwood could in 3, therefore Sopranos > Deadwood.

End thread hijack...****suckers

Deadwood didn't really have bad episodes.

And Sopranos really did.

Both great shows

Anyway let's post more great Deadwood stuff

Classic blood cleaning scene

I loved the backgrounds they gave for a Swearengen monologue. This is a pretty perfect example of it. He's such a complicated and unique character that he always seemed most vulnerable when in menial/trivial situations.

WILCOT/UTTER

just awesome wowowowowowow

My favorite episode is the one where they form a government and make EB Mayor. It's perfect Deadwood from start to finish.

Tried to find a clip from that episode but failed, But this is a funny one:
