Checked google for an update. Nothing new, but I found this from 2012: Django Unchained filmed some scenes on the Deadwood set:

Checked google for another update. Optimism soars! Read that first paragraph, and try to contain yourselves.

(I'll save you the click, and copy/paste the whole thing here. I'm sure they won't mind, as long as I include the link below.)

Here’s what Molly Parker has to say about the rumored Deadwood movie
The actress confirms there's a script and everything.

Could a Deadwood movie really be happening? Earlier this week, Deadline reported that the long-in-the-works HBO film received a tax credit — to the tune of $4.195 million. So although there is no green light for the Deadwood movie, the fact that HBO applied for a text credit and recieved it means that the network is fully committed to making the film.

In fact, HBO president Casey Bloys has said the Deadwood movie could film as soon as October. “Assuming that we could get all the actors back together, I think this is something we would do possibly next fall, fall 2018,” Bloys told Deadline in January. “I’m feeling optimistic about it.” And Bloys isn’t the only one feeling hopeful. Molly Parker, who played Alma Garret in the critically acclaimed drama is feeling optimistic about it, too.

Chatting about her role in the Lost in Space reboot, Parker had a tiny, tantalizing tidbit to share about the Deadwood movie. “The funny thing is that I ran into Ian McShane on a plane yesterday. So that was cool to see him. And he was quite encouraging about it,” she said.

“There is a script,” she confirmed. “I haven’t read it yet. I think there’s a possibility? I think it’s becoming closer to reality, but I honestly don’t read emails. You never know about these things until you’re actually shooting it.”

Parker’s answer echoes what her former co-star Timothy Olyphant said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last month. “They are making an effort, and I’m hopeful,” Olyphant told a caller. “I mean I’m a huge fan of David Milch. The man means the world to me. It’s one of the most amazing creative experiences I’ve ever been able to be apart of, and I’d love to be — you know when you do these things you really miss the people. It would just be a lovely excuse to get all those people back together… That being said, there’s no f—king way it’s ever going to happen.”

We’ll just have to see, Olyphant. We’ll just have to see.

I just watched Season One (again!), and saw a subtle thing I'd never noticed before. It wasn't worth bumping the thread, but since it's bumped now, here goes:

Early in an episode, I forget which, Bullock Star Utter and Merrick go for a walk. It's weird and awkward.

At the end of the episode, Reverend drops by the hardware store, and asks the boys (paraphrasing), 'Are you my friends? Or devils? Am I losing my mind?' The boys give him the password:

BULLOCK: I'm from Etobichoke, Ontario.
STAR: I'm from Vienna, Austria.

The Rev visibly relaxes. Bullock asks, "May we walk you back to your tent, sir?"

The Rev remarks how awesome "A walk with friends" could be, and they joyously skip out of the store, hand in hand.

This was the first time I noticed the constrast between the two walks in one episode.

To even apply for the tax credit...a company needs a “finished script and financing in place,” so HBO must have both. Yay!

So should we start guessing how it goes? Milch gave plenty of hints in the Box Set extras, of what he had in mind for Season Four: Bullock refusing to give up his badge after losing the rigged election, and Swearengen talking him down; a fire wipes out the camp, and they rebuild; a few new characters are added.

We're gonna need some new characters, because clearly, guys like Tolliver and Richardson (and surviving actors who can't fit this project into their schedules) aren't going to survive that fire!

Do they just pick up where they left off, ignoring the age difference in the characters?

I think they can get away with it. Molly Parker in Goliath and John Hawkes in Three Billboards look like they haven't aged at all.

They were ALL being weird. The other three were the rugged, pioneering, individualistic type, not accustomed to settling down in one place and forming friendships.

The walk with the rev at the end, no weirdness at all, the way "a walk with friends" is supposed to be.

EDIT: Actually, Star was cool about it in the first walk, it was Bullock and Utter who bridled at the idea.

I'll save you the click: They asked Kim Dickens what her next project is gonna be.

"Well, I’ll tell you, next up, looks like all signs are go to do the Deadwood movie this fall,” Dickens said to cheers from the audience. “I’m not giving an official release on this or anything, but yeah, they’re locking us down.”

This rocks. Milch and Clark (the technical consultant on NYPD Blue) on Charlie Rose in 1995. First half is about the show, but then charlie mentions the OJ Simpson case, big at the time. You'll love the discussion. It will have you imagining Simone and Sipowicz conducting the interview in that case. Starts at 14:00

TLDW:

Spoiler:
Simpson was interviewed by detectives the day after the murders. Waived his right to a lawyer, says he doesn't need one. 45 minute interview, incredibly damning (one former prosecutor wrote, "throw out all the other evidence-- give me 100 hours and a legal pad, I could have got a conviction based on that interview alone!"). But then the cops let him walk out of the room! Celebrity treatment in LA, is everyone's best guess as to why. Clark, um, has some thoughts on this!

BTW, inept prosecutors never introduced any of this interview as evidence. Lol.

HBO is officially moving forward with the “Deadwood” movie. The announcement was made by HBO programming president Casey Bloys at the TCA summer press tour on Wednesday.

“All of these people worked hard to get this together,” Bloys said. “It’s been a logistics nightmare getting all the cast members’ schedules together, but we are there. It is greenlit.”

Bloys also said the movie is currently scheduled to begin shooting in October for a spring 2019 air date, but added that the date is not “set in stone.”

This is not the first time Bloys had been questioned about the potential movie. Just last year, he praised the script he got for the film from series creator David Milch.

Ok. So now that this thing is apparently getting made, should we be scared they will spend 45 minutes of the movie getting people up to speed?

Hopefully they just dive right in knowing anyone who cares about it is a diehard fan.

Why be scared?

But seriously if they market it right they could edit together some
"get up to speed" videos as part of the promo campaign.

hard to imagine milch isn't gonna make sure he has total creative control and will make the movie he wants n not give a **** about bringing casual fans up to speed.

I would bet there is almost zero exposition.

He's Milch's biggest fanboi.

(Takes one to know one.)

Anyone else open the thread fearing it was news about another cast member dying?

In the case of Titus Welliver, I guess it's the same thing (link says he's only surviving veteran unavailable).

No spoilers here:

I was bored, so I asked Google who was directing the movie. "Daniel Minahan". Who's he?...looks like he's worked on some really good shows....Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Ray Donovan, Homeland, True Blood...oh, he's directed four Deadwoods? Which ones?

Suffer the Little Children (Kristen Bell gets her head caved in)
Mr Wu (Johnny Irons off the balcony, then drowned in tub)
Advances, None Miraculous (Bullock Jr takes all week to die)
A Two-Headed Beast (fight scene!)

Suffer and Beast are probably the two most intense, gut-ripping eps in the series' run?

Now, if you want a few spoilers (not a joke, actual spoilers, don't click if you don't want to know):

Spoiler:
Check out the "full cast" page on IMDb, there are a few new characters on the way, with familiar surnames. Looks like the Bullocks have more kids, and Sophia is all grown up!

I always wondered how they could do this movie, now that the actors are all "ten years older, and 40 lbs heavier"? Turns out that Milch dodged that problem by setting this movie ten years after the season finale...or as Cy would say, "Turn it around! Use it to your ****ing advantage!"

Speaking of that episode:

Just started watching Justified with my GF. I enjoy keeping a count of all the Deadwood actors who pop up. So far, I've spotted Peter Jason, Ray McKinnon, Brent Sexton, W Earl Brown, and Sean Bridgers--and we're barely midway through Season 1 of 6. Google says I'll see about a dozen more before I'm through.

I mention this because we watched Bridgers' episode last night. "That guy was in Deadwood, too!", I blurted. She's only watched the series once, she doesn't know it inside-out like I do, so she was having difficulty recalling the minor character. My brief descriptions weren't helping, so later I pulled up Mr Wu, and skipped right to the scene of Johnny Burns' highlight reel:

JOHNNY: Come in the front ****ing door!
AL: Bring him up.
JOHNNY: You want me to take him out, and bring him around back?
AL: Bring him the **** up!

JOHNNY: Siiiit. SIT! He won't sit.

JOHNNY: Ya think I should open it back up?
DAN: I believe that's what Al would want. (enormous eye roll)

JOHNNY: Those are the first CSrs I have ever heard shouted from that room, Dan, that didn't come from Al's mouth, that wasn't followed by Al coming over to that railing, pointing at you, and beckonin' ya up them stairs with your ****ing knife.
EB: (watching Tit Licker leave) I begrudge that pervert his capacity for happiness. I do.
JOHNNY: (gazing up towards Al's office) Them people worship a fat man seated on his ass.

Between that, and Al+Wu's classic scene in the office, my GF said, "We're gonna have to watch this show again sometime!"

(Yeah, I found a good one!)

Earl Brown tweeted about the day the cast reassembled for the first table read. Said the actor who spoke the first line, broke down crying in the middle of it....and then EVERYONE was crying. The tissue box made a "pfft-pfft-pfft..." sound, as everybody grabbed one.

Then that actor pulled himself together, and they got on with it.

One other tweet by WEB: in response to fans asking for pics of the new sets, he gave one: a hand-painted sign that said, "No Cameras Allowed."
