I thought Olyphant was weak the first time I watched the series, as well. But the more I re-watch, the more I love his performance.

I'm going 2>1>3, but it's a blanket photo finish between all three. 2>1 because 12 eps with Walcott>4 eps with Hickok; and the theater troupe has to drag 3 into last position.

But I'll still take Season 3 of DW over any season of anything else ever done (not saying it's "better", just saying it's "higher on my list of favorites").

Can't slip anything past you, Kurn.

Was at a basketball game last night, took a selfie of my friends and I at the game. All big smiles, and a big scowl from the bearded guy sitting behind us. When I posted the pic, I captioned it, "Guy with the beard begrudges us our capacity for happiness."

Since the Deadwood thread got bumped, thought you guys might like that one.

god just so perfectly written and acted.
so many just amazing lines.

the captain dude saying how he'd rather re-provision with the sioux.

during the fight between seth and al when cy is watching from the balcony and says something to the effect of "the danger in a fight like this is both parties will suffer mortal injuries"
then when the fight is over his delivery of "not that i would ever be so lucky" in just perfect deadpan, just so amazing.

and maybe one of the GOAT lines/delivery in the series when al says to wu "glad i taught you that word" which apparently according to the guy who played wu (as told in the the awesome links provided by YTF) ian improvised.

i was under the impression that milch wrote pretty much every word uttered and there wasn't really any improvisation, which clearly wasn't the case, which makes me want to know so badly which of the countless amazing lines were improvised.

the writing on the show is unrivaled in the history of TV imo.
also hard to find a better acted character then al (obv we know he was the best written/created character ever that goes w/o saying).
Deadwood is by far my favorite show ever, it's not close. As a fair guess, I have rewatched it more than 10 times.

When it was first airing one scene in episode 2 made me stop everything and say this is my show.

Al was "negotiating" with Sol and Bullock for their hardware store lot and he had such powerful dialogue, he just got angrier and angrier and finally he ended with, " Here's my counter offer to your counter offer, GFY!" I laughed a good 5 minutes.

Subtle moments such as in the first episode where Al is talking to Dan and he just casually says at the end of their conversation, " and don't forget to kill Tim (Driscoll)" who I am sure was a friend of Dan's.

I tried to get my wife to watch the show right away and for some reason she refused. In between Seasons 2-3 she finally started watching S1 and starts yelling at me," why didn't I make her watch this sooner." Anyway, she has rewatched it more than me.

There isn't a TV show that is more rewatchable than Deadwood furthermore there isn't a character that I don't think was acted/written amazing from Jane on down to the N***er General/Richardson/Steve the Drunk.

Anyway, it's on demand till Dec 31 and besides Arrow I know what I am watching tonight.

My favorite episode: Mr. Wu E10S01
My favorite character other than Al: Charlie Utter
My least favorite Character: Skyler White
Seasons in order of quality: 1=2=3. I think they're all roughly equal. Maybe 3 is a little lesser in quality if you don't like the acting troupe because their story was incomplete. I don't have a problem with it.

I watch a pretty dumb comedy on Fox called raising hope. The father on the show is this guy but I never realized it until a recent episode where he got hit on the head or something and did the lazy eye thing and said that's one in a row for you Wild Bill. My mind was blown

that guy also plays a terminator in the terminator tv show. he's great in that too.

i love deadwood, but i disagree about it being great to rewatch. i tried to rewatch and couldn't even get through one episode. i tried several times with different episodes.

jane is my favorite character

It's hard to think of any other dramatic TV show I have been interested in rewatching. Deadwood is probably the only one I've rewatched without a new viewer being present.

Great stuff. Loved the way Al said that. Too good.

Let's all do this...

My favorite episode: This is so tough. I'll go with Suffer The Little Children though. Thought the end of that lil arc was great, and Powers Boothe crushes.
My favorite character other than Al: Love this! Farnum. What a character, what a performance.
My least favorite Character: Steve the Drunk. Funny, but annoying as hell.
Seasons in order of quality: 1=2>3, but I don't think 3 is that bad at all. People have to remember that Milch planned on closure that never came.

Wow. This is way off base imo. I've rewatched 4-5 times and pick up new things and enjoy the hell out of it every time. Will watch again and again until I die.

He was in No Country For Old Men as well. Dillahunt has been lucky to have some great acting gigs in the last ten years. Although I haven't seen Raising Hope.

I don't mind Steve the Drunk too much but I see your point. Farnum is a great character played to slimy perfection.

Someone mentioned it above in the episode Mr. Wu he says "Glad I taught you that f***ing Word" as they proceeded to say the word C**ksucker over 50 times that episode, lol. I can watch that 2 minute scene 100 times over and have.

The Trial of Jack McCall and Al's explanantion why he doesn't like agitators, is hilarious. "That type guy hanging round gets people agitated. Forces them to take a position, one side or the other. And agitation brings a slight bump up in whiskey sales, but sale of c*nt plummets. ." hahahahahah

Yeah, I can't see how if you enjoyed watching Deadwood the first time, you can't enjoy it even more the 2nd go around to see everything you missed, which has to be considerable. The dialogue is tough to understand at points so subtitles really helped me.

I watched the first 2 last night on my way to rewatching the series yet again....lol

I *love* when shows/movies do this! And I'm so annoyed right now that I can't think of another good example, when there are a million of them. Help!

(All I've got is: every time R Lee Ermey shows up in something, they usually have him drop one of his iconic Full Metal Jacket lines into what he's doing. "What is your major malfunction, Sideshow Bob?")

EDIT: Just thought of a great one, Henry Winkler slipping a two-second "Fonzie combing his hair" moment in Arrested Development.

My favorite character including Al: Farnum
My least favorite Character: Either Dying Old Actor Guy, or Gordon Clapp Tailor Guy

OK. Here we go:

My favorite episode: The episode with the fight between Dan Dority and the Captain. Greatest fight in TV history.
My favorite character including Al: Wu and Hearst (after Al, of course) though my wife liked the crippled woman who cleaned up The Gem.
My least favorite Character: Either Commissioner Jarry or Brom Garrett

favorite recurring scene: What I refer to as Al's "BJ soliloquies"

FYPTSMP

I know there have been some incredible ones over the years, but this one had some amazing episodic buildup.

Stage mothers.
I don't even remember that....but I *DO* remember Olyphant on a podcast saying that the kid's stage mother was a tremendous PITA, to the point that one day, Milch knocked on the door of Olyphant's trailer to tell him, "Um, yeah, the kid's gotta die."

Hahahahah That's great, I never heard anything about that but it makes so much sense. Was that from the rewinds?

Keone Young was on the thinking poker podcast ep 50 and 61. I guess it was a long interview and the content on 61 is the first part of the interview that was lost and recovered later. I've listened to e50 and thought it was fantastic regardless if he was an actor on one of my fav shows of all time.

The Keone version of the story is from the rewinds. The Olyphant version is from a podcast that I'm pretty sure someone here linked. He was on to plug Justified, but talked about his whole career, and I want to say half of that discussion was about Deadwood. I had no idea the guy was so nice, and so funny.

He adds that Milch told him the kid dying would give Bullock a chance to do a lot with his father/husband character.

Another one from Raising Hope is when they are talking about child actors and the mother (Martha Plimpton) says "Child actors are the worst. They could star in a Steven Spielberg movie and still just end up playing the crazy mother on some stupid sitcom." Of course referring to her role in The Goonies.

Raising Hope is the most under rated sitcom on right now.

Also almost every guest star on Psych will have some reference to what ever they were famous for.
