Dark is a German supernatural family drama web series. A Netflix original series, the German-language series debuted on Netflix's streaming service on December 1, 2017. The series was co-created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese.
Premise
The disappearance of two young children in a German town brings light to the fractured relationships, double lives and past of four families living there, revealing a mystery that spans across three generations.
Has many of the standard elements of this genre, dead birds, dead flock of sheep, flickering power, missing kids, nuclear power plant, cave, time travel and so on.
Just watched ep 1. Gott im Himmel! They weren't kidding when they called this Dark. Not sure I can take 10 eps of this. The time thing does look interesting though, not so much the nuclear power angle. I'll give it at least to ep 3.
The time travel concept was well done imo and they did a good job with the actors portraying different timelines. I also enjoyed the mood and even though there's very little "monsters jumping out of nowhere" types of scenes, the series kept me on edge most of the time.
The part I'm not crazy about is that introducing two additional timelines towards the end seemed like it added too much extra confusion to an already confusing show.
I'm not very excited about the future scenario, but let's see where they go with it in season 2.
Loved it, going to have to rewatch. Lots of stuff I'm sure I missed.
FYI I've heard the dubbing is brutal. I don't understand why people have such an issue with subtitles. This is not the type of show you can just have on in the background btw. You really need to pay attention.
Binged this in 2 days, great show. Made it 10 minutes with English dub before I had to switch to the German and use subtitles. Dubs are basically almost never a good way to watch. The dub misses a lot of the emotion and tone behind the characters.
Agree with the reveal at the end of Episode 5 being crazy. I did not see that coming at all. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Season 2 but I have some fears it might be awful.
The hardest part for me was keeping track of all of the characters
Yeah, certainly needs a rewatch before s2. But thats prob not this year anymore, so time enough. Im guessing this show isnt popular here because of the need for subtitles that americans dont like?
