Back on June 27th.

Time to find a timeline/family tree cheatsheet and do a rewatch.

I'm very excited. Started a rewatch of everything a couple nights ago, now the third time I'll have watched s1. The show is a masterpiece, A+++ in originality and vision and it's all executed perfectly.

Not sure I have looked forward to any show dropping a new season as much as Dark.

oh man this show. I watched season 1 but didn't really pay attention, was kind of distracted it never really hooked me. but at the end I remember thinking, you know, this show deserves a second chance.

So glad I did. Once I actually paid enough attention to connect which young person in one scene was the old person in the next scene, it finally clicked.

This is also my number 1 show I'm looking forward to.

(added bonus that they named the show after my favorite starcraft player)

Yeah, if they can make S3 work, it will obviously be a super elite show, as long as they don't fall flat on their face it will still be elite. I keep telling people about this when they ask for shows to watch but nobody ever comes back and says fk yea, I guess it's the subtitles for some reason.

don't be a subtitle snob. if people want to watch dubbed, theres nothing wrong with that

Disagree strongly with you as far as this show is concerned. I know of multiple instances of people personally and the Internet who have watched significant portions of the show in both languages and 100% of them have reported that the German >>>> English. I rewatched a few scenes in English out of curiosity and it was unbearable after having watched the show as it was intended to be watched.

I was a very early adopter on this show (brag) and have recommended it to countless people and said pretty empathically that if they're not willing to watch with subtitles they shouldn't watch it. Would the show still be decent? Yeah, probably, but the drop off seems criminal and knowing someone watched it on my recommendation in English instead of German would just tilt me too hard.

+1 to above

The type of person who is ok with dubs is not the type of person I would be recommending this show to. That may be snobbish but Dark deserves to be watched a certain way.

My dad watched the first episode not realizing subtitles were available and quit because he thought it was corny. I made him try it again and now he's a superfan.

i think the default is dubbed if im not wrong, because thats what i got at first too and i hated it. I couldn't get past the fact that it all sounds studio-recorded (because it is), so you lose a lot of the other sounds

you could watch this dubbed, but on the other hand you could instead kill yourself

100%

Not snobbish at all. I do not have a high opinion of people who won't watch something because OMG I HAVE TO READ??!!!

I prefer dubbing to subtitles, but I guess in Germany they are just technically better at it, as this is the usual mode of operation for like 70 years now. For example, I actually prefer the German dubbed version of Apocalypse Now to the original, since in the latter they mumble a lot, and some of the translations emphasize the absurdities going on, although that might have not been intentional.

I can't understand why someone would rather watch a show dubbed than with subtitles. Watching something dubbed is so off putting I can only watch for like 5 minutes. I couldn't even watch an episode of foreign "Nailed It" on Netflix, and that show s as light as it gets.

if you're not willing to put in some effort to learn fluent german you shouldn't bother with this show

I must be the only one that struggled with this show. I thought it would be so good yet I couldn't understand what was going on half the time, and I tried my best to concentrate and know who was who. Then afterwards I watched a YT video and I didn't learn anything new to help me enjoy this. Undecided whether to continue with S2 or not.

I don't think it's possible to figure out what's happening on a first watch. There's 5 time timelines and they're about to introduce multiple dimensions as well. It also helps using a family tree chart.

Includes spoilers through season 2:

May just not be a show for you. Do you like sci-fi? Are you multitasking while watching? B/C that just wont work with Dark

My kids didnt appreciate Dark, but they cant not look at their phones 30 times in a hour. It took my wife several episodes before she realized this show was gonna require 100% focus.

Reddit episode recaps might help

Hard to rank this show with the final season not out but it has potential to be in top 10 discussions if they can equal previous seasons. It pains me the number of people that wont watch due to subtitles or complex storyline, this show definitely worth the effort.

Just started this up and we plowed through the first 5 episodes. I'm hooked. I watched the first 5 minutes dubbed and it really wasn't that bad, but I prefer German with subtitles so we switched to it. I'm not really a binge person, but I want to finish this by the weekend. I was glued to the screen and the only time I picked up my phone was to look up a characters name to make sure we were following.
