This seems backwards. Cheryl Hines still kind of looks the same to me but Mary Steenburgen had a crazy amount of plastic surgery a few years ago. She's softened out a bit now that some time has passed but she looked ridiculous when the surgery was fresh.

However I'm not denying Cheryl had any plastic surgery and I agree that it would be best if they just aged gracefully.

I think there is a movement in Hollywood over the past few years for middle aged women to be more resistant to plastic surgery, or at least trying to be more subtle about it instead of going for the massive overhaul. Courtney Cox talked about how it was the worst thing she could have done to herself. She now has wrinkles on her face when she smiles which is great.

When did Curb move to a multi-camera set up? I noticed it in the opening scene of the finale which looked really polished for a Curb episode.

Anyways I really liked the finale, still think the show has pacing problems (too many jokes/ scenarios without much of a breather in-between0 and the entire ep could have been cut down a bit but I loved F Murray Abraham as an "outfit tracker"..

Hope Larry comes back sooner than later and all of this was just rust from being away from TV for so long.

Embarrassed to ask this but how does a viewer tell if a show is single camera or multi camera?

I looked again and I was wrong about the opening scene being multi-cam, just looks more polished than normal.

Think this a good explanation

her whole face is hideous but her nose in particular is a ****ing disaster.
don't understand why ppl can't just accept the natural aging process it ALWAYS looks better than getting work done.
Isn't this a case of you can't tell when its good?

To be fair, I always thought Mary Steenburgen was absurdly attractive for her age as well, so I'm not too surprised to hear that she "had work done".

Julia Ormand was gorgeous, drop dead back in the day. She still doesn't look bad at all, just needs to hit the gym a little. SHe was in INcorporated, some silly 1 season show on SyFy this year.

I think I've finally been able to put my finger on why Curb felt so "off" this season (and maybe the past couple recent seasons). Others have mentioned it itt that in a more general sense, the show has lost what has made it great, but I believe that thing specifically is what differentiated itself from Seinfeld.

Both shows are two breeds of the same kind of animal. Seinfeld is the version that is more sitcommy and hammy. When watching Seinfeld, you're always aware that you're watching a tv show. CYE historically went the opposite way, trying to come off very realistic, almost like a documentary. Like the Larry Sanders Show. The humor was more about the intricacies of social contracts, interactions, etiquette, etc. Seinfeld was shtick.
Both shows succeeded best when they stayed in their own lane.

So I think the problem is that in the past couple of CYE seasons, the show has become more like Seinfeld. The dialogue feels so much more scripted with forced lines and moments. The way it's shot no longer feels like we are listening in on conversations, but contain more deliberate types of shots, angles, etc.
There were so many more shticky types of returning jokes this season. Just look at the finale. You have the outfit tracker thing, the whole apology/thank you thing, the ridiculousness of the duel, etc. Even something like a deaf interpreter with big tits, like is that SERIOUSLY going to be so distracting at a wedding that the mother of the bride would have to kick her out? They even needed to have the groom's parents be deaf just so they could justify having the interpreter there. It's all just so damn inorganic.

Now just imagine if all of that had happened in a Seinfeld episode. It would've been awesome!! It would have been a freaking classic because that's what we loved about Seinfeld, and that style of humor would've matched the style of that show. But when put in the context of a show where we're supposed to be able to buy that this stuff is really happening, it just doesn't mesh well.
I'll bet if you look at a lot of the storylines from this season, they would've fit like a glove in the Seinfeld world.

I was starting to watch CYE from the beginning right before the new season started since it had been years since seeing them, and I only made it through the first couple of seasons bc I got busy. But it became glaringly apparent that early CYE and 2017 CYE feel like two completely different shows. The show was better when it was simpler.

I don't know if you guys noticed the names of the episodes from this season, but most of them were named after one of the recurring jokes from each episode. The Pickle Gambit. Thank You For Your Service. Foisted. Never Wait For Seconds. Etc. etc. It's as if LD was trying to get out as many memorable terms and phrases as possible, just like the bajillion that came out of Seinfeld.

It's still enjoyable now, I just think this season came across like Larry David didn't know if this really might be the last ever season, so he wanted to not only throw everything he had into it, but also some Seinfeldy kind of stuff too.

That's a thoughtful take and an especially good insight re: the episode titles. I'm sure there's at least some truth to it.

You are reading a lot into a show that’s there to give you a laugh for 30+ minutes. Just enjoy it for what it is.

I agree with this completely and I somewhat think that there was no avoiding this.

When curb was new and fresh most people didn't know any of these characters and even though Larry David was a rich successful guy, his character felt very relatable. The show largely focused on his relationship with his wife who was a great character and his dealings with everyday life.

As the show went o,n certain characters became Kramerized and we started to expect things from them. Couple that with long gaps in time between seasons and the filming quality changing and we get a show that is just different now.

agree with all. also, there was egregious product placement this season. the show has gone from the blair witch project to jurassic world.

+1 TY double down.

I'm a couple episodes now behind but, oof. Some of these bits (Judge Judy) are downright cheesy, which is not an adjective I thought I'd ever use to describe Curb.

finally watched the final...boo,hiss,boo.

Clunky forced bits - the house guests were pointless and not funny. The signing lady was pretty good but thought it would have been better carried out during the actual play and not just a rehearsal. Larry wanting taxes back on his 1200 - not very funny - not a social issue the show is based on. Just feels like this season they come up with a rough draft, but then don't refine it into becoming CYE-worthy.

And Leon was just dead weight.
