The season is getting better and better. Last 3-4 episodes have been excellent. I even LOLed at the short preview for next week.

Funny bits, but still not the CYE style of interweaving the stories, with the payoff at the end.

Why did the guy not want his money just because he thought Larry was black?

Because he felt bad about berating Larry on the phone for not waiting by the car and just leaving a note instead.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9

The season has had some funny moments, but a lot of it seems like they are just doing a "CYE reunion tour" where they drag out favorite characters from the past for one last hurrah, rather than coming up with something new. I'm half expecting a Happy Days style applause break every time one of the series regulars makes an appearance

Not exactly on topic, but check out the outtakes of LD reading mean tweets about Jimmy Kimmel. It's so strange to see LD cracking up uncontrollably:

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9

okay episode - don't want to become the CYE hater - but again not done in the pure CYE style. The arab guy at the buffet was great - and him finding Larry in a dark hallway was good. The reunion style with all the past characters was okay (funny that I am watching the entire series in parallel with new eps, so I remebered each person right away).

Main complaint was that "flipping the tip" is not a real social issue that people deal with - kind of contrived imo.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9

This seems to be setting up for the finale. Structurally this was very similar to the Seinfeld finale, where a 'judge' listens to people from the past and hears their interactions with the main character(s). Only difference is that Larry is (so far) judged as being just and correct, whereas all of Seinfeld's mistakes caught up with them.

It reminded me of that also. Unfortunately this didn't make as big an impact for me as I watched every season when it was current and not again since, so it has been so long that I didn't remember many of the people the investigator questioned, where I had watched almost all the early Seinfeld episodes in reruns during the last 2 seasons it was on, so I had watched everything within 2 years so the court witnesses were still all fresh in my mind. It made me think I should rewatch the first few seasons of Curb.

I find it odd that Larry's wife is listed as a full cast member this season and credited after every episode when she was only in the first 2 or so.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9

Love all of the past seasons, but this version of curb continues to be a huge let down for me. The filming style is different, but it also seems like the show has completely moved away from improvisational conversation to a scripted show trying to be curb your enthusiasm. The fatwa story-line comes and goes and I'm not sure if Larry is supposed to still be nervous or not.

Also, what's up with the Ted Danson and Cheryl situation? A major revelation is revealed early on and we go half a dozen episodes really seeing nothing develop.

I mean you're watching the wrong show if you're here for character development and plot resolution. Larrys arcs serve one thing only : comedy.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9

Such great episodes since week 3. It's one of just a few shows I can ever remember where when I have it in my TiVo I'm legitimately torn on whether to watch it, since I know I'll love it but then when I'm done I'll never have that experience of watching again for the first time.
