First ep of s3 was really strong imo.

We've heard this criticism of Pete from at least two different people: your comedy isn't personal and you don't have a voice. From the nightclub lady and his mother. Anyone else? I like that it's both clearly true and Pete is not hearing it/blowing it off.

Senor,

Didn’t his cute comic gf who he broke up with after the roast say something like that too?

After almost quitting this show last season, I think it’s off to a much better start this season.

S1 was a legitimate pain to endure, S2 slowly started righting ship. Strong start to S3. I feel like similar to Pete's likely progression, this show finally has a voice and a perspective that is uniform (lack of wife/divorce storyline definitely helps).

What? Pain to endure? I think your brain is broken. After spending years listening to comics this is an accurate representation of the struggle. From a pure comedy fan standpoint the **** is on point but I woudn't call this just a comedy. It's like a mashup version of an autobiography for the standup comedian of this era.

I seem to recall that s1 was pretty disappointing relative to my expectations as well, but on s2 the show somewhat found its direction. It's slightly worrying that nearly all the really good episodes were co-written by Apatow, as was s3e1, so I'm not overly optimistic s3 is going to be stellar as a whole, either. But I think it has a lot of promise and s2 already delivered with some really good high points. The cute comic gf brings a lot of life to the show and I hope she remains in the picture. More cameos won't hurt either, I think they could have been done a lot better so far.

Also, more Bill Burr please

i binge watched season 1 and 2 back to back and liked them both. While S1 may have been clunky while finding its footing I wasnt disappointed

Anyone else really digging this show?

I thought the first season was disappointing. Loved the concept of the show as far as it related to a struggling comedian in the nyc comedy scene but hated the ex-wife and hippie boyfriend stuff.

Season 2 really cleaned that up. Pete’s character is just the right amount of cringe worthy. Season 3 is more of the same.

Love the cameos on the show. If any of you guys are ever in NYC, the Conedy Cellar is absolutely worth a stop. Cover is $12-$25 (depending on weeknight or weekend) and you get 2-2.5 hours of comedy.

Latest episode dropped early.

Show is great.

I legit would watch Pete's Mark Paul Gosselaar home schooling show

Fan of the show but ep 2 was a fail imo. Tried too hard to emulate an episode of Louie, plus she was way too hot to believe she'd be into an overweight middle-aged nerd.

+1. I'm not even a native English speaker and many of the quickly delivered American political/racial etc jokes often go way over my head, but every time I go it's awesome and somehow also dirt cheap.

Feels like you're inside of an episode of Louie.

(I miss Louie )

Guess you shouldn’t watch ep 3 then, or perhaps the rest of the season. Really enjoying this season.

I look forward to new episodes of the show and at the same time feel that it is really really bad in so many areas.

The writing is great when it comes to conversations, but the overall story of season 3 and the show in general appears directionless and lazy.

I was into the show at first, it's more of a "life of a struggling comedian" than and actual comedy it seems with cool cameos. Pete is funnier than this imo so IDK wtf is going wrong here, maybe bad writers or something. Since I'm a comedy geek I should be loving this show and instead it's just kinda whatever. I like seeing comedians I've been a fan of for years but podcasts do them justice better than this unfunny show.

I predict canceled before next season unless they do some dumb **** like with Bored to Death and Enlightened and take a good show off while keeping horse piss on the air.

Man, couldn't disagree more with you guys. I think the show is great, although it definitely isn't a plot driven show. Which is fine? Many comedies aren't plot driven. Like, there's no Seinfeld season 4 plotline.

I thought two episodes ago was really great, with the aging failing comic. And I usually hate cringe comedy, but since I liked this it made me think about why I generally hate cringe comedy but liked this. And I think it is because much of the time cringe comedy involves characters that are not really recognizable as humans. Like Michael Scott acts in a way that is just not credible as a living breathing human person. But the cringey old comic was a fully human character that you could to a certain degree identify with. Or I could anyway. I really liked it when Ali was all I'm sorry you've been doing this for 15 years and all you have to show for it is managing the Boston and he erupts 22! 22 years! Really well done.

And I really enjoyed his religious stuff. Moses doing crossfit was great.

This. Season 1 had a real narrative to it and this season is just aimless and lazy. Also and probably most importantly, it's just not that funny anymore.

mark me down for really liking the show and not caring that it comes across as directionless. Im just going along for the ride.

Is that Emu Phillips guy real? Seemed super annoying, why were all those comics creaming themselves over him?

I also really really hate Pete's girlfriend. Even more annoying than Emu Phillips. What a psycho.

Pete's gf is ok, I don't find her annoying.

I didn’t find her annoying until this episode, when she was obviously purposefully annoying. At first she felt like a breath of fresh air in his life and the show. Wasn’t expecting her to be around this long, though, and I’m not sure what worthwhile direction the show can take her in at this point.

I found her to be annoying a couple of different times: when she got annoyed with Pete at the dildo store, the phone sex thing, then the big overreaction to the ex thing. None of it was too bad but they were all warning signs of lack of trust, insecurity and a very thin skin. Which a thin skin is not great if you're dating Pete Holmes imo.
