Finally got to watch all of S1. Good show and good casting. They make Reseda and Encino so nice looking that I was envious of those kids, but poor Ed Asner looked awful. So many misunderstandings among the characters but I guess thats life. I wanted to tell a few of the characters to stop drinking. Favorite character: Miguels grandma.

Really enjoyable show - my whole family is having a blast watching it, more so than I can remember any scripted program we've all viewed together. We were trying to put our fingers on why it's so great and we felt it was that Macchio and Zabka both really bought into it, the kid actors are especially solid, and they don't seem to go out of their way to check boxes to make the show appealing.

Not sure why some folks think S2 was such a step down, as I thought it was on a par with the first.

For me, season 1 transported a lot of the vibe and positivity over from the original movie while being pretty lighthearted. Didn’t see much of that in season 2.

Also not a huge fan of shows that use some kind of shocking/unexpected development to hide the fact that everything else is extremely predictable.

Yeah for me s1>>>>s2. I feel like it became a soap opera as S2 wore on, like often both overly serious and dumb at the same time. A shame because I thought S1 was pretty brilliant and a great use of the source material.

Also despite the theme of the show, I think it can do without a "fight of the week" which is pretty much what happened. I feel like if Mr. Miyagi were real he'd tell the showrunners to ****ing cool it and use the actual fights as a last resort, something you build to with a slow burn over a few eps at a time.

Season 3 trailer dropped today!! Lots to get into, IMO. Not going to discuss due to potential spoilers but worth the watch.

I watched season 1 and enjoyed it- this is a pretty light, funny, enjoyable show for the most part. It also brings back some nostalgia. I can't see this holding up in terms of quality but we'll see.

I thought the trailer was kind of meh, IMO. Hopefully they held back some stuff or I'm just being hypercritical, cuz what I saw looked at risk of being pretty paint by numbers.

That’s a lot of seasons but I’m not going to doubt them. Season 3 has better reviews than season 2.

Just watched the first 5 episodes and agree it’s a step up from season 2. Still miss the original Karate Kid vibe from season 1 though.

That said, some random thoughts
Spoiler:
after all the build up the Elisabeth Shue appearance felt really pointless.

Also thought that both Robbie and Hawk’s turns were poorly done. Hawk in particular was very random and he’s way more fun as an *******.

Sam continues to suck.

How the hell was Vietnam pony tail guy not Terry Silver?

If they had reduced this season and squeezed in the upcoming All Valley tournament it would have been elite - feels like they padded this one a bit.

It makes sense that they envision this going into at least season 6, since season 3 seemed like they stretched material that could've been covered in a few episodes to span the entire season. Still decent, but way too padded.

[spoil]they shot him in the head I thought after he was captured when Creese refused to blow up the hut - I assumed he was calling the other guy who may actually be Silver?[/quote]

The Okinawa episode with Chosen was one of the best of the series. The way they set everything up was great, showing the changes to the village, etc, and I don't remember Daniel's line exactly but after a bit of awkward silence at the lunch, Daniel breaks the silence with the family and kids question. Followed by Chosen's response and then just the whole rest of the episode was great.

Overall season 3 was definitely better than season 2. Still no idea how they extend this to season 6. Are the kids going to be doing karate while in college, etc? a Kreese or Terry Silver spinoff/aftermath? The ideas seem to run thin.

The actor that plays Kreese looks amazing at his age by the way. I assume he's in the Stallone/De Niro etc age bracket. He looks much younger than alot of those guys.

The bell girl that Daniel saved in KK2, it is the same actress. I thought that was cool.

I feel like the last episode where we finally get johnny/daniels karate kids together to fight creese should have been like episode 4 and set the stage for the meat of the season.

I really hate Sam. She is insufferable and it is impossible to root for her. Robbie at least now is a clear villain so I can hate him in peace too. Miguel (and I guess Hawks redemption) is the only one worth cheering for although I like the hot Kai girl just because she hates Sam so much.

The worst part is the show is named Cobra Kai. I want to be a fan of Cobra Kai like in season one. But now they are all just dbags for the sake of dbagging. I really didnt find myself happy at any scenes other than Miguel + Johnny together. And Larusso wife is also great.
