Blasphemy, this show is so far below pnr, but S1 of pnr wasn't great either.

Great ep. Show is on its way. Best 2 network comedies airing back to back.

Cold open gag was top-notch. Rosa's face during smelly shoe explosion was hilarious.

"It's the best book I've ever read...and I've read 15 books."

"Shhh...turn off your mouth siren."

"I thought I could handle my browwnnn."

Charles's chicken laugh! And him slurping and feeding himself linguini suggestively.

All the Diaz stuff was A+. From her smiling inappropriately in the court to "then I'd reach down his throat and shake his hand", the laughs were huge for me.

The guitar scene was the most hilarious part of that episode to me, because that was literally what nearly every mid 80s hardcore song was...lol.

Re: Brooklyn Nine Nine Season 1

I checked out the pilot 2 days ago and went through all 8 episodes in 48 hours. This is the best network comedy in a while. The chemistry with the cast is just so rare to have after only a few episodes. Everyone has a clearly defined role and fits into the ensemble well.

I had avoided watching it for so long because I generally don't like Andy Sandberg. He always seems to be playing 1 degree too far (He was actually decent in Celeste and Jesse Forever though). It is like if a singer only sung in a falsetto and never dropped into a normal register. He hasn't completely won me over but he is serviceable and definitely delivers the jokes well.

I knew Andre Braugher could be funny from watching Men of a Certain Age but wow I didn't realize how laugh out loud hilarious he could be. The episode where no one could get a read on him where he just dryly delivered "I went to Barbados with my husband. We wove hats of palm fronds. We swam with the stingrays. I’ve never been happier." was so good.

Terry Crews has been the real revelation for me. I know him from some other stuff but never really thought much of him. But his gift for physical comedy is so apparent in these first few episodes. Stuff like trying to stifle the yawn and forgetting how to breathe were highlights.

The rest of the cast is really good too, Fumero was a total unknown to me and she is outright charming. Peretti strains a little bit but usually gets laughs.

My only major issues are:

Peralta is portrayed as kind of a screw up but someone who has so much innate talent that people will put up with him. But he makes so many errors that this strains credulity at times. Arresting someone with no evidence at all because of a personal grudge shouldn't be brushed off so easily, even in a goofy sitcom. I think they should make him a little more competent in the broadest areas of police work.

The B stories usually seem like they are just thrown in from any episode and don't have enough thematic resonance with the A plot. So it feels a little disconnected sometimes going from some plot driven stuff to a goofy little sketch. They are often very funny but this could be improved with better writing.

Overall though I really like the show and hope it gets renewed.

I like this show a lot, and I hope it sticks around for a long time. It's on FOX, though, so low expectations.

I think every character has just great and unique facial expressions. Diaz in the courtroom was awesome

I like diaz better when she's using her psycho dry wit as opposed to physical comedy.

If you didn't burst into laughter at Diaz's shifting creepy smile in the courtroom, you might need a humor adjustment.

wasnt talking about the smile, was talking about her trying to blink and screwing up her face instead. thats not her strength.

It's not her thing, for sure, but all of her facial expressions were perfectly creepy in those scenes.

Loved this weeks episode, this show continues to deliver and there is certainly room for improvement as well.

Kind of amazed that this isn't a breakaway hit. Seems like a pretty board comedy, just well executed.

This show is similar to PnR and New Girl. It's not going to draw the audience that BBT or 2 1/2 men draw, despite being 100x better.

But it should bring enough of one to last a few seasons. I hope so.

And Patton Oswalt = A episode for me.

The Terry Crews 8ball gag easily the standout tonight.

Re: Brooklyn Nine Nine Season 1

Such a good show. Every character delivers. Patton Oswalt was a great guest, right from the very beginning with the slow mo walk out from the fire truck.

"Someone reported they couldn't find your head, but we found it - it was up your butt. You're a fireman, you should know how to treat that BURN!" [Sideways High Five!]

"What are you doing giving candy to a baby in the first place?! Don't give candy to a baby! They can't brush their teeth!"

Man this show is awesome.

That episode was brilliant throughout. Terry Crews 8 ball was the highlight of the episodes for me.

My favorite new show of the year, can't say there is a character I even dislike. The only problem I may have is Scully being a poorer version of Jerry.

The captain's delivery of "of course, it's the only one that measures mouth-feel" is one of the better callbacks I've ever seen.
