youre a smart guy, stop being distracted by the explosions and think about how things actually transpired over the last few eps, starting with sending someone a guy in a box before you attempt to sneak up and kill them.

Your example is misguided.

As I mentioned earlier, and as other posters in this thread have mentioned, Masseria killed Owen and sent him the box, NOT Gyp. Yes, Gyp is working with Masseria's guys, but it's very possible - in fact likely - that Masseria sent the box without letting Gyp know he sent it to Nucky.

Gyp was not in New York at the time of the hit, and he didn't know about the hit ahead of time. Luciano told Masseria about it, so Luciano was ready. He sent Nucky the box immediately after the failed hit. So assuming that Gyp had sent the box before attacking Nucky is incorrect thinking.

So, that's a poor example. I'd be interested to hear what else you take issue with. As Ron Burgundy said in Anchorman, "That's not a good start, but keep going..."

Don't really see any reason to engage you if you're going to take a condescending tone and not even offer examples to back up your opinion.

Did they ever explain what exactly Capone got out of the deal to help Nucky?

They didn't go into detail, but it's safe to assume a partnership and/or steady supply of booze for Chicago.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

I know it's cool to see super assassins doing their thing, but the Harrow scene was pretty absurd.

Guy with one eye bursts in to an open space and shoots the **** out of 11 armed men coming at him from all directions? Too silly. He needed to be stealthier for it to be in any way believable to me, but clearly that's just me so whatever.

Pretty good finale overall, sets things up nicely.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

The only problem with the last episode was how powerful the final ending was in Ep 11, to the shows obv (myself included) gangland style violence wanting fanbase. It just couldn't live up to the hype and that singular performance after depriving us for so long in the build up.

All the other things, Harrow single-handedly wiping out the house, Nucky and Elie marching in by themselves, those things don't bother me much but get noted. Meh, tv.

All the rest of it was what I love about the show. No one gets too much of the focus other than Nucky and how they play a part in his life and business. And cool as a lot of these characters are, historically or in the show, they only get as much time as they fit into Nucky's world, his Boardwalk Empire.

Show in making a serious run for best ever in my world. Guess we'll see next season.

We don't really see them get out of the car and walk in the house, we see the two of them asking "what happened here" and walking up the stairs. I don't think we have to assume they are alone.

Nat is 100% correct here.
Arguments like this get made in other shows ( Sons of Anarchy for example) and rightly so. But on Boardwalk, everything is easily explainable or has a purpose.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

I thought the finale' was overshadowed by the greatness of the preceding episode. It was good, but not great.

For a split second I thought I had predicted Gyp's demise perfectly, but then I realized it was a bait and switch, and they would never let it be that transparent. I thought the scene on the beach was great because it showed just how BAT**** CRAZY Gyp actually was.

I was really hoping Margaret died by bleeding out after her back-room abortion. It would have served the purpose of closing the loop on the church/womens health storyline and rid the show of her, but on second thought I guess there is value having her around because it helps flesh out the human side of Nucky and gives you a few good moments where you can see the conflict in him and the fact that he wants to do good.

good finale, only disappointment for me was no Van Alden back in AC fighting as one of Capone's men (and alongside Nucky)

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

regarding Richard from Sepinwall's interview with Winter:

Quote:
Richard has become one of the fan favorite characters, and his rampage through the Commodore's house in the finale is one of the most memorable sequences of the finale, if not of the entire series. People keep waiting for the moment when he's going to go work for Nucky so he can become even more prominent. I know you love Jack Huston and this character, but what do you do now with him at this point?

That remains to be seen in season 4. All of what you've said is true: he's a fan favorite, he's a favorite of ours. You do want to see more of him, you do want to see him and Nucky together, and we're well aware of that, and possibly that's what'll happen in season 4.

No. You're not the first person to ask me that. She does not.

George Pelecanos and Dennis Lehane are going to be writing for the show next year, that is pretty cool.

The Harrow part needed more of a setup. His first scene is like 40 minutes in and he's just blasting everybody. A little too random that he came in just as Masseria's men were leaving.
Lord no.

There was nothing that should have happened with Richard inbetween the gun scene from last week and him walking into the club. There's just nothing you could have done that would have added anything. I love that they didn't really tease it during the ep, just BOOM, it was time for business to pick up- business did- it was awesome.

Margaret looked pretty amazing in that last scene.

They are in a war ,the general never takes the point in a situation like this .

I didn't get this either.
So, Nucky advises Mellon (via Means) that AR now has control of the still, Mellon then tells Randolph to indict AR. What's in it for Mellon? Why does he not go after Nucky for going back on their deal and giving control of the still to AR, a still that Nucky doesn't even own or have the right to give control to someone else? Why would Mellon want to get himself involved with Nucky's problems? And what proof do they have to indict AR that he is now in control of the still?
Clearly that scene raised a number of questions for me. The only reason I can think of to justify it all is that Nucky has upped the ante on whatever it was he initially agreed to provide Mellon for their deal. Although even that is questionable as Mellon could be thinking "this guy has just screwed me over with giving away control of the still, why should I trust him not to screw me over again?"

Great ep and finale however last week was the best ep of the season for me.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

the Mellon angle shouldn't be so much concern. It was clearly meant to be a hanger. Notice he didn't even know who AR is, some dude had to whisper it in his ear while on the phone. Could be a million reasons for it. Someone could have his grand daughter held hostage with a gun in her ear, who knows right. Maybe he's got some other angle for his benefit. A million things. I suspect we'll find out.

I was confused by the Mellon involvement too.

Nucky made it seem like when he showed up to get it going Rothstein already had an operation there?

Sepinwall's interview with Winter is a must read for this thread.

The Mellon thing was just him and Nucky making the most out of a what became a ****ty situation once Nucky had to give up control of the distillery.
