Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

From what I've read, in times before a PA system, when someone wanted to reach a person in a public place such as a hotel lobby or ballroom, they would call the front desk and an employee known as a page would walk around calling out "paging mr. XXXXX"

Please let's not get into that debate. Every good show has it and it's terrible.

That episode was amazing! I recall people complaining that the Capone character wasn't relevant to the show, lol.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

Just watched it again. Thought we got to see a real picture into the mind of Nucky, multiple times in this episode. Obviously withstanding the initial attack was great, as he immediately had strategy on how to deal with the attackers, gaining some sort of upper hand. Despite his age and being outnumbered he disposed of the attackers relatively easily, which had to be at least somewhat surprising since we had never seen him handle a gun in a high stress situation

The part I liked though; when Eddy crashes the car and reveals that he's been shot. Despite the consistent condescension from Nucky, the borderline servant treatment, Eddy is still trying to do everything for him with a bullet in his stomach. Nucky responds "I said I didn't want you mixed up in this," but he never actually said that. Back in the office right before the attack, he only said "It's not safe, you need to leave." He never actually voiced any real care or feeling for Eddy, even though it's clearly implied. Not knowing if he had family members was lol, especially that he was shocked by it

The conversations with Chalky are all pretty good. Back against the wall Nucky seemed to know exactly what to say at every moment. A little surprising that the discussions all went so well for him, but I guess Chalky realized that he would probably rather have Nucky around than Rosetti

Margaret will find herself front-and-center as she takes on the new challenge of reforming Atlantic City's school system.

Van Alden develops a new game involving the purchase and sale of real estate and featuring local Atlantic City landmark properties. Known at the time as simply, "The Game" it takes the country by fire. However, Van Alden is not able to capitalize on his invention as he cannot devise any other method of sale than going door-to-door and throwing in a bottle of Aquavit as a sweetener. Eventually, he is shut out of the market all together as the Parker Brothers gang steal his idea.

Chalky and his crew fail miserably at their nightclub venture, but his (now) son-in-law saves the day by starting Harper's magazine.

IDK if this was mention but the young Doctor should of had a huge scare on his face from getting slashed. Only nitpick, great episode.

Not necessarily. Getting cut by a sharp blade leaves a clean cut and it should heal well. Much better than a rip or tear of the skin. I cut my finger rather deep on a sharp object (broken glass) this past summer and you can only see the scar because of the break in the fingerprint.

First off, my post was 100% compliment. 2nd, agree to not get into the debate, but this show is a perfect example of a show that the debate works for.

Masseria sent Owen in the box, not necessarily Gyp.

I disagree, he would of had a noticable scar. It was long, deep, and on his face; fingers hide scars really well.

I could be wrong but I thought I read someone that they are currently in 1923, as Luciano was arrested for drugs possession IRL during 1923.
Plus Winter said that season 3 had skipped ahead a couple of years from season 2.

Nucky pulling up to the hospital is the best scene of this series

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

I somewhat randomly decided to watch Boardwalk Empire on HBO GO a couple weeks ago. I flew threw the series and watched the most recent episodes on Monday. It's total BS that I have to wait six days to see the season 3 finale.

I've got a fairly random question. Why does the show use an opening theme with modern music rather than a period piece?

I've read through the whole thread.

I'm surprised by the love for Van Alden. I assumed his awkwardness would make him a despised character in OOTV.

You guys spend too much time talking about Margaret.

Harrow was a great character in the first two seasons. But, he's been weak in the third. If he's going to stick around for the fourth season, they need to get him back in the game.
