What's not true? That Winter makes the family dynamic the focal point of his shows? You're flat out wrong, and you even say yourself it is obvious they want to do that.

Some people feel it is distracting because they want a straight crime drama. Others feel it is what makes Winter's shows different and interesting. I'm saying if you're the former, you better get used to it because it is not likely to change. It's what Terrence Winter does.

it's not true that people who say that do not get the show; all the family stuff is boring

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

I don't really know how tv works, but The Sopranos doesn't count as Winter's'show right? What do those secondary writers, who in Winter's case came to the series midway through, bring to the table? I always figured they helped with the nuts and bolts of individual episodes, and that the major themes and storylines are set in place by the creator mostly independently?

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

As I understand it, TV writing usually has a head writer whose vision is the driving force behind the show, but the actual writing of episodes, storylines, etc., is a pretty collaborative effort, even though individual scripts usually only have one or two names on them.

Tough to say what Terrence Winter shows are about based on The Sopranos then, yeah?

i think they break the story in the writers room usually then send people away to actually write the episode. Im sure some showrunners will then rewrite parts of the scripts they want changed.

Ugh I guess I'll watch even though the only time the show was as awesome as I wanted it to be is when Jimmy said "I guess you'd agree Greektown belongs to us now."

As great as football is, it's really Boardwalk that gets me through the first few months after summer ends.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

i disagree w/ the family stuff being boring . margarets storyline was pretty fascinating and well written eventhough they went w/ it for a bit too long and the lolpolio was terrible . but other than that , margaret was fantastic last season .

w/ that being said , i think that story has been told already and i hope they dont spend as much time w/ it this season as they did w/ it last season .

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

it's Gyp? thought it was Chip.

anyway, I'm not so sure about that character. Just seems like Al Capone except always pissed off. I hate Bobby Cannavale, never liked him in anything I've seen him in. hoped he could sway me, but i dont think he did. i was wishing they cast someone else in that role.

Van Alden's storyline is about to get really interesting.

Who is Harrow with? Am I forgetting something, or is he just a lone vigilante at this point?

Manny killed Angela. Harrow loved Angela. I guess Gillian wanting to erase any memory of Angela was the tipping point for him to finally avenge her death.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

Ep was great and I really really do enjoy the show, but I found myself wanting the episode to be over often. It wasn't boredom induced at all, cause this show isn't boring. I just wanted it to be done.

I think it because this show book ends their eps with such really good intros and then freaking great outros that I really want to hurry and get to that really great outro.
