Beyond that though, the gender politics of the time are actually an interesting subject in and of themselves, and something that plenty of posters here are clearly oblivious to. I especially liked the posts asking why the religious nurse was so opposed to the word vagina etc, like it was some dumb oversight by the show's writers cos obviously no one would be bothered by the word vagina...
Well Margaret is not part of his home life anymore. He is only seeing her to keep up appearances, yet she is still getting plenty of time. I wouldn't see anything wrong with a character highlighting the backwardness of those times, but margaret's character is just crammed with those things and feels like something out of educational programming and not from a drama meant to entertain. Just because there are people who are ignorant of how intolerant some institutions were at those times, doesn't mean major subplots have to constantly be devoted to addressing those issues and educating the unknowing.

That was all What the **** and Who Gives a **** compared to last week until Bugsy Effin Seagal took over. Might have been one of my least favorite episodes until the end.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

yeah I agree, I found that episode really boring compared to last week. Basically nothing happened except Nucky tried to kill Gyp and Margaret found out about the mistress. This show is so hit or miss for me, adding in that storyline about the actor and the sex ed scenes was pointless. The Michael Shannon character is so random now that he just seems to be there for token shock scenes every now and then. Hopefully he's about to get gangster though.

They should basically never go an episode without developing each of Lucchiano's, Gyp's and Capone's storylines for most of the time. The fact that they can't seem to work Chalky's character into the story in a meaningful way is pretty bad too.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

they really know how to pull me in when it's getting extremely boring. the Chalky scene was really good and Bugsy is awesome. all the rest? eh.

Van Alden's storyline is about to get good. I'm to ADD to even care what all that James Cromwell, Stephen Root stuff is about.

I honestly thought Jillian was just playing along this whole time. she really thinks Jimmy is alive? I'm confused on that.

She is just in denial about it, but reality is smacking her in the face at this point.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

Man, I coulda waited till it was on demand and fast forwarded thru like 50% if not more of that ep. The writers like to put lots of ****ty filler in this show. I could give a **** about Nucky's new gf and the stage show and teh gay actor even tho he's pretty good in the past. Van Alden is progressing which is awesome, they need to just kill Margerate and Nucky imo. **** them both.

Hopefully we have an interesting ep next week tho since war is brewing.

it was about the teapot dome scandal. Watergate made it look somewhat tame, but it was the biggest political scandal until watergate

I thought it was one of better episodes of the series - I don't understand how some people were bored. I guess I just love watching Stephen Root, James Cromwell, Dominic Chianese, Michael Shannon and the dude that plays Eddie Cantor perform.

The Margaret stuff is boring as hell, but even in her story line, she finds out about Nucky and Billie. Van Alden's storyline is escalating, and the Lansky/Gyp shootout was cool. Great episode.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

No Richard = bad

The gf = nearly insufferable

Spartacus style massacre at the end = good at the time, silly in retrospect

Van Alden working for O'Banion = massive potential

Part of me was hoping Gyp would be accidentally strangled in the first scene and then Nucky and Rothstein would have a laugh later about how their problems were solved by a good stroke of fortune.

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

damn, i love this series, despite a lot of boring storylines, but that was too ****ing much. about 90% of the **** in that episode should've been scratched imo. it's been mentioned already so there's no real need for me to get into it.

one thing i did like (aside from bugsy airing that place out) was nucky letting eli share his thoughts during the meeting with rothstein. im hoping that nuck will begin to see that eli knows "the game" and still has much to offer. hes a good character, and giving him time is a good thing.

btw am i wrong for hoping gyp takes margaret and her children out? i want the children to go so they dont create some lame ass story where nucky has to raise them up. (i know this is all wishful thinking)

Re: Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

Any one else notice Nuckys Pine Barrens reference in ep 3 when talking to gyp about how he'll transport his liqour if the gas stations are out of bounds. For those who don't know Pine Barrens was the title of one of the best Sopranos episodes of the whole series and was written by one Steve Buscemi.

Yes I did catch the Pine Barrens reference, and Buscemi directed that episode, he didn't write it.
