lol no; margaret is boring, capone and van alden are not. i do not see why a person's sex would all of a sudden make this boring magraret story line interesting, what a weird thought.

No...you can just stop when she's with Nucky and something major seems like it's going down. Otherwise it's a waste of time.

Facepalm. She's learning, slowly but surely, that the church is just as evil and selfish as Nucky or any other human institution.

I actually enjoy the storyline, especially the scene in this episode. It's a big "**** you" to religion from the story's creators and it's brilliant and beautifully done. The beauty is that Margaret and the doctor, far apart as they may be, equally recognize the idiocy and backwardsness (even in the 1920s) of the nun's attitude towards this prenatal education program.

Can someone tell me why were they so against it?

So Margeret is setting up a program where woman are taught how to take of themselves and eat well while pregnant?

What the **** is wrong with that.I dont think that breaks any rules in the catholic church?

Because the hospital is Church run and the Church does not want to be seen promoting sexual thoughts. Vaginas are "dirty" and proper people do not talk about them. Even if those people are your doctors and are pregnant.

It's a backwards thought process. Sort of like the modern day Church not allowing their members to use condoms. Forget proper health guidance - it's morally wrong to talk about sexual things.

It's just one of many reasons why, imo, the Catholic Church is evil.

it is not big **** you at all, but a pretty incoherent story line that is all over the place. she didn't need to needlessly donate all of nuggy's land to see the backwardness of the church. it really makes her seem dumb, when she needs women having miscarriages right in front of her, to help her come to that conclusion. and she and the doctor are really not far apart at all:/

I used to like the Margeret character. But if I was Nucky, and she gives my land to the church, she is dead. So it makes it hard to rationalise her continued existence.

You're not smart enough to be the effective troll you think you are.

When the same people in multiple threads seem predisposed to dislike it when female characters are given their own storylines it's maybe not so much about the show as much as it is about them.

To me the problem with Margaret's storyline is more that there's a lot of complex moral/ethical/philosophical stuff there that needs more time to be expanded up and they can't really find that with all the plots they're trying to service.

Also I think she suffers from something Sepinwall pointed out in his review wrt Nucky. A lot of the other characters have these big, broad personalities. Nucky and Margaret, who are both more dialed down and reserved, suffer a bit in contrast to Capone/Richard/Van Alden etc.

Great, great episode. It's easily one of my favorites.

The scene with Luciano and the Italians and Nucky toying with the young hoodlum were both outstanding.

A+. The show could use more Van Alden. One has to think there will be a Van Alden centric episode coming soon.

The show needs to have a more dialed down center, otherwise you have a show that is all over the top stylized violence from charismatic scene stealers.

I am disinterested in Margarets storyline. It feels uneventful, inconsistent, and ultimately inconsequential wrt anything other than direct contributions to the arc of other BE characters.

This is different from my dislike for Skyler on BB, in which I simply dislike her character rather than her use in the show.

I do, however, very much enjoy Peggy and Joan on MM. So I don't think it's simply because they are female characters, for me anyway.

Nucky is just fine imo, Its just ole frowny face brings the boring to a new level. Like I said earlier I like that she gets to show how backwards things were back then in regards to women but when they just spend tons of time on the show with her and the children or something equally dull I wanna self asphyxiate just to get rid of the boredom.
