the scene where rothstein tells luciano and lansky that he won't back them on the heroine deal he also mentions nucky is about to move on massaria and that's how luciano finds out about that (just look at his reaction) then he goes and just tells massaria that it's probably going to be the irishman enforcer nucky has and massaria was ready because he was warned

and to everyone who thinks it was doyle who ratted out nucky's plan, it doesn't seem likely. like i mentioned, i think rothstein just mentions it in passing when he is explaining to luciano and lansky why he can't back them

Best ever episode of BE by a country mile, 10/10

Even though I'm super pumped for next Sunday I have this awful feeling in my gut that because of her absence in this ep then they are going to give us double rations of Margaret in the finale, please please let me be wrong, this show is a million times better without her boring as crap storylines.

All the people belittling Chalkys scenes feel bad now?

YOU SHOULD.

After thinking a bit I think sending owen is totally something gyp would do. He doesn't come off as the smartest guy and he's a giant *******.

Honestly I think they are both in the same league. I consider both to be solid to really good 2nd tier shows, but it's all subjective.

I have watched this show from the beginning and I love it.
But, I have NEVER enjoyed a scene with Margarat. ****ing ****, soooo annoying.
Owen was just as bad as Nucky, only difference between them is that he's better looking.
Ah, **** Margarat.

Favorite characters are Capone, Rothstein, Nucky, Eli etc. Show should be about those people all the way.
Favorite female character is Gillian, but her story is getting to be well played perhaps.

I'm not sure this is the GOAT episode like some people are suggesting, but it was pretty damn awesome and Capone's bit at the end was beautiful. So pumped for the finale.

Minor nit point: When Gyp showed up at Chalkie's he shouted out "paging Mr Chalkie White". Would the term paging have even existed in the 20's?

It's an extremely old term, deriving from : http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/page

jumping on the best EP yet coattail express. Going to be sad when this season ends.

which Google confirms is Kipling's "If" in German.

So when Gyp met with Chalky and gave the little "left out in the sun too long" line, did anyone else get a flash of a scene where Gyp watched True Romance and thought "Hey, that's funny! I should say something like that next time I deal with a black guy."

well, that was pretty good.

One thing I liked was how much they showed Nucky alone - he's always been a political animal in this show, even when he got trapped in that basement it was with Owen and that kid. He seems to hate people but he needs them around too, and he doesn't have much without them.

Re: Chalky - Still feel like Nucky insulting him when he was 'concussed' and his intimidation of Eddie Cantor were superfluous. They did pay off his son-in-law being a doctor and that whole business though. Shouldn't his face have been scarred?

Triumph, I was wondering the same thing as well about the son-in-law

I was waiting for someone to say this, but I wasn't sure how long it had been. Even if it wasn't as bad as it looked, that was fairly recently wasn't it?

Boston crime novelist Dennis Lehane is bound for Atlantic City.

The Boston Herald reports that the author of Shutter Island, Mystic River, and Gone, Baby, Gone has joined the fourth season of HBO's Boardwalk Empire as a writer and creative consultant. George Pelecanos, a writer who worked with Lehane on HBO's The Wire, has also joined Boardwalk Empire as an executive producer for this coming season.

"They will consult with showrunner Terrence Winter of The Sopranos fame to map out the outline for Season 4, and Lehane said he will be responsible for writing the script for at least one episode," according to The Herald.

I noticed the same thing, came across this quote:

"In 1921, the first pager-like system was in use by the Detroit Police Department. However, it was not until 1949 that the very first telephone pager was patented. The inventor's name was Al Gross and his pagers were first used in New York City's Jewish Hospital. Al Gross' pager was not a consumer device available to everyone. The FCC did not approve the pager for public use until 1958."
http://inventors.about.com/od/pstart...ns/a/pager.htm

And decided that since it's unclear exactly what year Boardwalk Empire is in, that it's too minor a nit. On second thought however, we know the Black Sox Scandal happened in 1919, and that the show started right when Prohibition kicked in (1919), and that it's hard to imagine two+ years have passed since then, so, therefore, it does seem weird that Gyp would use that phrase.

Edit: Oh, I just looked at that Merriam-Webster link. I wonder what context the term "paging" would've been used, pre-pagers, in the way Gyp used it.

Wasn't season 2 1920 New Years? Not far fetched for this to be 1921.

Freaking hell, that was outstanding.

This episode put the show at the bottom of the top tier shows for me. If the finale delivers how I think it should, it'll be in the top 5 currently airing.
