However this show has greatly exaggerated money due to the fact no one would find it too impressive if Nucky was bringing in a thousand bucks a week or whatever.

I would guess the 200 a month in the show is meant to represent like a thousand in today's economy.
Actually, considering average salary was $1236 in 1920, $200 equates to about 2 months wages, so it's more like $7000 current dollars.

Esther Randolph with one line this ep and killing it. Reminded me of that Seinfeld ep.

Blame the inflation calculator I used. But that's pretty cool to know thanks.

meh. buscemi being all out of sorts is a classic sopranos/terence winter tack, they took this with tony and junior over the course of the series and the commodore on this show. i also thought we might have a dream episode but i felt we had something worse. although buscemi's acting was pretty incredible. a nice job moving the plot forward wrt margaret and owen, and there were some excellent scenes apart from that (harrow's stuff).

In the same boat. He always thinks of a way to out level everyone though.

Same. As soon as she said it I thought
"George is getting upset!"

If Nucky needs an army to fight Gyp then it would appear that Capone/Chicago is his only hope, with some Harrow thrown in for the win.

Yeah, OK, I'm glad I'm not the only one this occurred to. Even though I enjoyed the episode I had a hard time not seeing it come from a Sopranos 101 template.

So what happened to the whole Margaret/hospital thing? Are we just supposed to forget about that? Or will the revisit/resolve it in the last 3 episodes?

Kinda hope they just let it die, it was almost as bad of a storyline as Gillian still being relevant in this show.

Well the entire episode seemed to take place the day after the explosion, starting in the afternoon and ending at night. Also it was her daughters birthday, which doesn't leave much time for that arc (thankfully)

nucky offering a piece of mellon's distillery out west should be enough to get capone on his side

I agree with this, but felt the payoff of Nucky's final scene was worth it.
Harrow's stuff was outstanding and I am not the biggest Harrow booster.

This. There was obviously a reason Torrio did not attend the meeting. This is probably whats being set up. The whole "I'll consider you a partner" speech by Nucky kinda gave it away. Perfect opportunity to show Capone's rise to power.

Torrio seemed to be done with the game after returning from Italy. Almost makes too much sense

He also made it clear (to Capone at least) that he approved of the way he ran things. Torrio definitely seems like he's going to check out and Capone will step up and crack some skulls.

I thought 2+2 had already decided that Capone was a peripheral character crow-barred into the plot to add appeal to the show though?

Not sure what to make of that episode. Watched it 3 days ago and believe I need to watch it again. All I really have so far is a lingering ring in my ear that seems to have drowned out the ability to form an opinion.

You're confusing Capone with Chalky.

I posted this elsewhere, but without knowing US history and the details of what happens, Chalky has largely just been peripheral to the main story and is a character I could live without. What value has the character offered? He's lobbied a few black votes for Nucky, a doctor wants to marry his daughter, and he was Nucky's muscle to convince Eddie to do the play with Billie to lift her profile. Big fricken deal to all that!

I'd much rather they spent air time on Van Alden, Capone, Rothstein, Lucky, Harrow, etc. The characters that are interesting and are consequential to the story.

I think several folks ITT suffer from "Omar envy", hence why they would like to see more of him.

I agree with this. Chalky had much more direct significance to Nucky the politician than Nucky the gangster.

Ya Omar was a badass character and I just found out a month ago was based on a real dude in Baltimore (what I heard anyways from my bro who lives in Balt now). Chalky started off interesting but now he seems as important as Nucky's butler. Just another lacky with no need for much screen time. The last interesting scene I remember of him was in the jail cell and since then Chalky is basically a tiny character to the plot and eats time like so much dumb crap in this show. Herpa derp sex ed class anyone? That went no where......

ive posted my thoughts on Chalky a few times, but its obvious they cast too high profile and actor and just shoehorn him in from time to time. I stand by my thought that the storyline earlier this season with his daughter's boyfriend was the worst in the show's run, worse than Margaret's vagina discoveries.

The daughter's bf thing was this season? Wow, they dropped that fast.

This show is overstuffed enough as it is. I love Michael K. Williams as an actor and like Chalky, but adding a long Chalky arc would make the show even more messy.
