I was considering waiting until the end of the season and knocking the rest of it out at once, but this last ep got me back on board to go week by week.

Well he was sec of treas IRL for like another decade, so theres plenty of time left, theres that.

He also was almost impeached AND tried for tax evasion, so its easy to slide him into this universe for the long haul.

Or maybe we see him once more...who knows. I love the character though.

From there it's all about recognizing what kind of business deal this was
Not sure if this needs to be spoilered. From the Inside the Episode segment:

Spoiler:
Interestingly enough, when the producer was talking about this scene, he approached it from the 'Nucky is good at politics and is therefore able to successfully approach Mellon in a way most gangster couldn't.' I thought it was strange, because Mellon's disdain seemed incredibly obvious to me as well.

This has to do with a real life death of a periphery character:

Spoiler:
I'd imagine with harding's impending death(I'm only spoiler ing this because people get horribly nitty in this thread and all they have to do is open up a history book on this one) that we will see some more of Mellon. The tea pot dome trials go a bit longer iirc. He was questioned more, but we know he was never indicted.

That said, I don't know how much of a role he will play in 24 and beyond as Coolidge rid a lot of the corruption under Harding.

I thought the Van Alden scene was exceptionally well done if you're willing to overlook the fact that the iron would never be on.

my speculation:
Nucky, now desperate, will turn to Harrow to assassinate Rosseti (and possibly Joe the boss).

Makes sense. There going to have to cut the serpents head off now.

Harrow's story line at the whore house seems to be coming to an end too.

That would be perfect. Should we read anything into Torrio not being there? Any chance Capone gets dragged into this?

Disagree completely. In fact I think if anything...

Spoiler:
richard kills Jillian and takes over the harem in some capacity, whether outright or running it for nucky or charlie

I get the feeling

Spoiler:
Capone is going to come to Nucky's rescue which will also coincide with him becoming the boss himself.

That was my initial thought but it doesnt jive with actual history

Guys you can fact check your theories with actual history btw. I don't know if you want to do that, but you can.

Nuck going to Richard for help seems highly likely. He takes orders from a woman he has zero respect for right now, although he does that so he can be with the kid.

Spoiler:
Richard shows no affection to the sluts and doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would be involved in the sex trade. I dont see that happening. Killing Jillian seems too cruel because of the kid. She would have to do something terrible to the boy for him to kill her.

I think Richard joins up with Chalky, Eli and Owen as the muscle and Owen ends up getting killed.

I really didn't like Chalky tonight, they had him "aww shucking" to an embarrassing level.

That scene in the bedroom was weird. looked like margaret was getting hawt in the **** when nuck was talking dirty italian entrails.

The Chalky stuff was weird. Thought there were going to be fireworks when Nucky kicked all the bosses out of his office and Chalky didn't leave shortly after being called uppity. Nothing came of it though. Sometimes I think they insert Chalky into scenes just to remind the audience he exists.

the Chalky addition felt tacked on like always. I know he's part of the braintrust, but it's like they said "haha, what if Chalky was there and Nucky mistook him for the shoeshine guy?" I think they made a mistake hiring a semi-famous actor for that role, b/c they feel like they have this iconic HBO actor and they need to shoehorn him in from time to time... then again, im probably just talking out of my ass

Gillian is completely expendable at this point, no? Harrow shooting her one time?

Harrow, yeah, one time is enough. If it were anyone else doing it, I'd say shoot her multiple times to be sure.

INT. GILLIAN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Richard enters to find a nude Gillian sulking at her vanity.

GILLIAN
Richard, blah blah blah, Tommy, blah blah blah...

Richard pulls a shotgun from behind his back, ***** it, FIRES into Gillian's face.

RICHARD
(sucks in saliva)
Now you know... how it feels.

When Masseria is with Gyp at the bench front, he clearly tells Gyp that his problems are his problems.
Spoiler:
A quick look at history also confirms that Joe The Boss will not be executed by anyone this season.
