Boardwalk Empire: Season 3 Boardwalk Empire: Season 3

Dids hit it pretty well in the last paragraph. Jimmy wasn't a perfect character but he was elevated being put next to Nucky who I care less about than any other main character that I can remember from a show I enjoy.

Jimmy was always my least favorite character.

Calling Cannavale a replacement for Pitt is a pretty gross oversimplification. In the sense that he appears to be Nucky's main anatagonist he's that, but he's not trying to occupy the same degree of importance within the story.

The other big function Jimmy had was a more direct connection to Capone et al. You essentially had all the Jr. Gangsters tied to one of the lead characters. Now that connection, and their relevant in the larger story is a big more strained. I'm not sure that's a problem, I'm cool if those B and C stories just happen and have nothing to do with Nucky.

There is actually a chance she was born after independence, for instance if she was 16 when she was hired by Nucky. A 16 year old nanny is more believable than a 24 year old nanny.

Even if she was born before 1905, that only means she was born a Swedish subject, but not a Swede. She was not a Swedish subject when she appears in the show. Calling her a Swede is very much like calling Owen Slater an Englishman.

I def thought I'd miss Jimmy much more than I have. His being gone hasn't diminished my enjoyment of the show at all.

I find Gyp amusing but god damn did they go off the rails with this character having any kind of realism. Its like they brought in a character from a B level gangster movie and put it in Goodfellas or The Godfather.

Even as stupid as the killings were by Gyp as well as his overreactions to every little thing it is entertaining tho.
Have you watched Goodfellas recently?

Is this not the exact same archetype as Gyp?

why was Jimmy such a polarizing character? A lot of people considered him their favorite, a lot were the opposite.

Or it's like they brought in Joe Pesci from Goodfellas, just taller and better looking.

It's a not at all subtle homage.

Joe pesci's character made sense, he was offed before he was a made man just like I think Gyp woulda been offed just for being an idiot before he ever got to the status he is now. He put a pig to flames in the middle of the street, lol pesci did his dirt behind closed doors.

some really awkward writing this episode. the bacon-frying dream foreshadowing of the policeman's demise stands out. so does nucky pointedly asking harrow if he thinks of the people he's killed just before harrow says, you would know, and moodily exits. in what world does that dialogue ever occur?

People started working at like 7 back then, a 16 yr old was practically a grown up back then.

It was a completely different time, forensic technology had made huge leaps by the 1980's. Also, as has been mentioned before ITT, the FBI didn't even exist when Rosetti was running the streets, dousing chubbies with petrol and setting them ablaze. In view of these facts, he's probably being just as reckless as Pesci was being in Goodfellas.

Goodfellas was set in the 1970s, so forensics still sucked back then.

Regardless, the issue is not just getting caught, but that someone that can't control their temper is a general liability. Its one thing to make a calculated killing for business reasons, but if you go off at any slight insult and kill civilians, cop, and other mobsters (although Rosetti hasn't yet done this, its pretty clear he's willing to kill Nucky for an insult) no one is going to want to work with or for you.

I think this dude woulda been offed by either by a posse or his own gang. Guy has been on for what 4 eps and offed 2 people like he was squatting a bug and its easy to just asssume he's offing people left and right. Someone woulda put a whole in the dudes head eventually is all Im saying.
