Eli looks like a broken man. I'm 95% sure that there's going to be a scene later on in the season where he's screaming and crying at Nucky something along the lines of:

"Do you know what they did to me in there?".

Think Margaret might end up banging the doctor too. There's a bit of sexual tension building between them. Giving a guy tobacco smoking advice in 1923 is probably equivalent to fellatio nowadays.

WTF no.

There's some very obvious superficial similarities that have been there since the show started, but that's about it.

Given the complexities of the characters they're developing, this kind of analysis of this show is pretty damn frustrating.

My first thought on the razor blade was Nucky was examining it to see if there were other colored hairs inside.

I didn't completely understand the scene with Rothstein when he corrects Nucky on the date regarding the convoy. Also, great editing on the 3 bumper pool shot--you can't see the hand move at all.

Nucky wants to be in a position where the machine just works and he doesn't have to do day to day oversite, but as Rothstein points out- he's not there yet, because somewhere somebody (we assume Micky I guess) ****ed up the date. Nucky can't get out, because he's still needed to make things work.

I thought the pool shot was too cute by like 100%. I like this show, but sometimes I get a "Hey Guys, watch me direct the **** out of this show" feel sometimes. Just a bit more showy than necessary, and it ways that take me out of the show.

you're gonna have to explain this one. Because I don't see it.

Eli, though, is more interesting now being completely broken. He's essentially a muse just going through the motions. His eldest son basically giving Eli little to no emotion is going to turn into a great storyline I feel.

eh, it's not like we've never seen that type of storyline before. And Eli was never one of the more interesting characters on the show. If more Eli means more Doyle, I'm fine with it, b/c that dude still cracks me up

Eli felt so small talking to his son since it was the son bringing home the money. That was a pretty powering scene I thought.

When Eli got picked up he asked Mickey..

"Lemee ask you something, how the **** you still alive?"

Seriously.

I liked it a lot, but I think Rosetti is a little bit over the top. The spaghetti scene made me laugh though

It's just establishing AR as a hustler in games like billards/poker. It's actually vital to who he really is if they stay true to the historical AR. I don't think playing 4 rails on an 8 ball duck is over the top at all.

Was finally able to see the first episode. There have always been two things which bring out my inner nit in this show and they both show up in this episode.

Buscemi is too small to play nucky. The worst scene was when he slams hans schroeder against the table game in the casino, but in this episode it was also a bit difficult to watch him standing up to cannavale.

The other thing is how often the main characters do thuggish things themselves. I dount manny would do the murder himself but thats not too big of a deal. I thought his death was handled well although i dont like to see him go. Cant wait to see more of cannavale.

The obannion scenes were a little hard to believe but set up the rivalry quickly.

What possible evidence of this do you think you've seen? Manny is clearly a "gets his hands dirty" kind of guy.

And your point on Nucky just misses the whole point of the character all together. He's not trying to intimidate anybody physically. It's all the implication of what happens when you anger a man with power.

Manny makes more sense than some of the other murders in the series but a lot of them really dont make sense. The most recent one i remember was jimmy and the guy with half a face against the kkk. Manny i could never really tell what his position was. The more small time he is the more it would make sense but i always got the feeling he probably wouldnt actually do this type of thing himself. I first thought it a bit odd when he went after jimmy himself but it does make this most recent scene more plausible.

I would consider smashing someones face against a table intimidating them physically but who knows. They try to have him be physically intimidating in plenty of scenes and its often hard to buy unless it is him vs his butler. I actually think you might be missing the point of the character, the time period, and the plot if you think that if he had never been physically intimidating he could have ever gotten this far as a gangster.

See again, Jimmy and Richard have always been the guys to do the shooting. You're acting like they're bosses who would delegate that sort of work, but that's just not what's happened on the show.

You can't judge the show against an imagined reality that only exists in your head.
