1. 15 million merits
2. Entire History of You
3. San Junipero
4. White Bear
5. Be Right Back
6. White Christmas
7. National Anthem
8. Hated in the Nation
9. Nosedive
10. Playtest
11. Shut Up and Dance
12. Waldo Moment
13. Men Against Fire

Really surprised 15mm isn't higher on a lot of people's list and Nosedive is considered the worst of last season by a lot of you

The ending of "SanJ" really bugs me.
It has all kind of spiritual and consciousness implications that bug me, even as an atheist. Are we sure it has a happy ending?

I think SUaD is being overlooked as a warning on the loss of privacy and especially the vulnerability of people less adept at technology. People are more and more dependent on technologies they don't understand and can be used against them.

I mean ultimately it might be a sad ending with the implication that eventually everyone loses the ability to feel something because of immortality but in the immediate sense I think it was a happy ending.

The creator/writer said in his reddit AMA that he grew so fond of the characters that he wanted to give them a happy ending.

San Junipero
White Christmas
15 Million Merits
Entire History of You
White Bear

Need to watch the others more to formulate a full list, but these 5 stand out (top on list my favorite).

I guess I'll be the hater... man this show is so overrated by the 2p2/Reddit crowd Should've known because this is the kind of **** that appeals to millennials but as a tv show this is just mediocre (another example of the same phenomenon: Mr Robot). Basically ~half of the episodes could have lasted 5 minutes; they have this one futuristic idea they want to showcase (admittedly, these ideas are virtually always well thought out and interesting), but the episodes themselves often fall flat because they don't really tell a story of any kind. Think 15 million merits, for example; that whole thing could have been the length of a music video. There's like no actual story whatsoever. I agree that the social (media) commentory in that episode is very smart, but again, it wouldn't have hurt to insert some dialogue or do something about the characters to not make them so paper thin. This is the problem with half the episodes; they spend so much time showing their dystopian fantasy and explaining how everything works in the universe that by the time stuff actually starts happening the episode is already 2/3 through.

There were definitely a couple of highlights; I thought San Junipero was GREAT, White Christmas and Entire History of You were pretty good, same for the Waldo one. Virtually every ep has something interesting about it and the concepts stay with you, you find yourself thinking how plausible this and that would be irl, etc. The show is definitely an interesting cultural phenomenon and a cool concept but calling it elite television is pretty lol. Basically all of its merits have nothing to do with it actually being a tv show; they could have turned these ideas into books or music videos or whatever and I suspect they would've turned much better. Or at least made these 2 hours a pop. One hour just isn't enough when you need to spend so much time explaining the concept every single time. This is also why the ones with a little more grounded (plausible within the next say 25-50 years) ideas generally work so much better. Entire History of You, for example, had a concept that could actually happen in the near future (Google Glass v. 7.0 or something) and they needed about 2 minutes to explain it. Now we had 50 minutes of actual dialogue and an interesting story to tell through characters we learned and cared about. I don't think that one would've needed any additional length at all, it was great as it was.

Would rate the show as a whole 3.5/5.

3.5 is mediocre? I'd consider 2.5 mediocre

And might they have been better as books or movie-length? Yeah possibly, it depends on the episode, but something like 15mm or Waldo could have been longer (White Bear or TNA really couldn't have been extended much I feel)

Game of Thrones was much better as books than the tv show too, but that didnt stop them putting out some great episodic television (before it all went to **** this season)

I'd kinda rate them mediocre tv-wise (accounting just for "normal" parameters), but add another star for creativity / cool ideas and concept etc.

I don't think the show is mediocre at all. Mediocre is a word that I'd use to describe a show like Gossip Girl.

TV that inspires thought and contemplation is rare and due accolades among a sea of rote entertainment, no matter it's quality.

I watched S1E1, National Anthem, pretty good, compelling. Then tried the next one , 15 MIllion Merits and couldn't make it past 15 minutes in, just had a played out vibe and nothing was happening.

What's the consensus on S2 and S3 relative to S1?

A season shouldn't be judged, each episode stands alone.

yes, I meant more if they used all their story ideas in S1 or if they kept coming up with original ideas

Just watched the first episode and thought it was great.

I wonder what Trump would do if Ivanka were kidnapped...

Wow, Playtest was ****ing intense. I agree that the ending(s) didn't quite work, but holy **** once he was in the scary house.

Entire History of You is brilliant and my favorite. Incredibly moving and heart-breaking.
