Someone asked him that on Reddit the other day, he said the episode was written first. He heard the song later on a Spotify playlist.

Have watched 1-3 so far, in order 1,3,2. Was really disappointed by 1,3 felt both were very predicatable from too early in episode.

While 1 was visually and audibly pleasing, we didn't need to watch any further than the phone call to invite her to the wedding.

3 Actually felt predictable until the end so I guess it technically wasn't; whether it was a troll setting him up or he was actually a pedo, didn't see that coming. But as mentioned by others the tediousness of watching him do all these unfeasible things over a standard wank wasn't made worthwhile by the twist. The concept for this ep also seems heavily borrowed from 2012 film Disconnect.

Seeing 2 and then seeing the orders put up by others here has given me hope for the rest of the series though.

On Playtest, who else thought that...
Spoiler:
When he was returning home, that his Mom would have hanged herself in her room due to the foreshadowing when he mentioned that before going into that last room in the house. I thought that was going to be the 'twist'.

Yeah, I thought that too. I shut my brain off watching tv so we were probably suppose to think that. Then they went twist crazy.

Oh man, aint that the truth. I was commenting to my wife how awful 80's clothing was when we were watching the San Junipero. Crazy how the style isn't as bad while you are living during that time.

I really liked Playtest, I wish it ended at the second level when he was pulled out of the room.

San Junipero was excellent too. I thought the one girl was going to die in Junipero and not be able to be with her husband and daughter.

Nosedive, I stopped after 10 minutes, just wasn't feeling it.

Will watch the rest later.

Ep6 seems promising, but struggling to take seriously after having seen Touch of Cloth. Keep expecting them to say something ridiculous.

Surprised with all the ep 6 hate. It gave us my favorite black mirror character so far.

Considering it's an 80's song, I don't even know how people thought they wrote it themselves.

They were definitely asking if the premise of the episode was conceived based on that song, or independently.

Have just seen Nose Dive...I liked it...funny and scary and only maybe 5 years away.

Loved San Junipero ... until the last 20 seconds. WTF that is SO out of character considering the preceding half hour. Makes no sense.

I wish she didn't go to San Junipero and she went with her husband.

Yeah everything in the episode was building towards her turning it down. The lonely nerd forever looking for a Player 2. The scorned dude always looking for his ex. Them mentioning a hard limit of a few hours a week lest the patient go "crazy" and want to stay - which I took to mean as just being "convinced" by one of the current residents to stay....

Her staying makes no sense.

I'm watching these in order and sparing them. The first one was weak enough by BM standards. The second one was better but the third one really blew me away. I just got so absorbed in the story and did not see the twist coming.

This episode was still in the back of my mind when I began to watch episode 4. For the first half an hour of it I was struggling to get into the storyline. Holy **** though, that was some change of gears in that second half. I don't normally get emotional when watching something but this definitely got to me. My new favourite BM episode.

Spoiler:
Not surprisingly this episode and "Heaven is a Place on Earth" are now lesbian cultural icons

Reading this thread is not making me excited about episodes 5 & 6 though

Well, episode 3 is my least favorite this season and 6 is my #2, so don't take everyone's opinion like that. watch em!

This show is a bit like a modern Outer Limits. It's unpleasant and disturbing and tricky and deliciously good.

Our current USA#1 election could use a good solid dose of Waldo.

I see people all the time clearly having a point they've been yearning to make only to act in the opposite way once they've made it.

My list, kind of surprised at some of the other rankings so far, but I think that's what makes Black Mirror great. Even Men Against Fire was a seriously good episode of television for any other show:

1. The National Anthem
2. Fifteen Million Merits
3. White Christmas
4. San Junipero
5. Hated in the Nation
6. The Waldo Moment
7. The Entire History of You
8. White Bear
9. Be Right Back
10. Nosedive
11. Shut Up and Dance
12. Playtest
13. Men Against Fire

I feel like a lot of these are pretty changeable.

One thing that's really bizarre about all 3 lists is that we all have 15mm directly below TNA. Bizarre coincidence or something else?

Men Against Fire

Spoiler:
Did anybody feel like they could see the entire episode coming about 5 minutes in?

And then it felt like the reveal happened, and you were waiting for the next part.

And then the next scene was just more explaining and overexplaining the reveal.

The the next scene was literally him just sitting in a room with somebody explaining the entire plot that had been completely obvious for at least half an hour.

It just felt like the director was like... "hmm I'm still not sure people will get it. Have another character come in and explain it all as if they were speaking to a 5 year old"

Men Against Fire was pretty cool I guess, but I've seen the Outer Limits episode that was basically the same which made it lame rip-offy, especially since OL should hardly be an obscure reference for the creators of BM.
