from my understanding of it, tv work has a lot of upside in that it's stable and steady, you know what your schedule is tomorrow, you know what it'll be in 3 months, etc etc
when making films you may have to be on set at 4am one day and 2 pm the next day, the movie will take 6-9 weeks to film so you can't quite plan ahead too well and you're probably on location half the time living out of a hotel room
it's nice to live in your house, grind regular hours, be able to make plans easily, etc etc
he's also unlikely to get many more leading roles in films yet likely still commands top dollar from showtime
i've always viewed him as the perfect candidate to play ignatius j reilly if a confederacy of dunces ever gets out of production hell and actually gets made
