really liked the early seasons, they made a few mistakes I can't recall off hand with the Rhoades & their social circle but are otherwise pretty good at portraying the old money vs new money cultural divide

really enjoyed it but then the taylor thing becoming the crux of the storyline was just too much

taylor rarely shows any sort of game changing brilliance or anything, it's just kind of bestowed and then the worst part is you have all these people using the "they" pronoun - i get it the showrunners want it to be pc and all but we're talking a group of people who's only motivation is to destroy taylor and yet behind taylor's back use the preferred pronoun??? when malkovich playing a casually kill all your enemies russian gangster offers to kill taylor but still politely used "they" I just lost it - i mean c'mon they hate taylor so much they want to kill but are still being pc about it?

but that bit aside, recent seasons have been very sub par and the early seasons were excellent

mostly grunched this thread but seeing recent comments, i'm happy to hold off on watching this season until i get a compelling reason to believe it's not going to be hot garbage

Caught my eye that Ben Mezrich of Bringkng Down the House and Busting Vegas fame was credited as a writer this week. Anybody else know if he is a regular contributor?

i watch it cos im 5 seasons deep now.

I am bored of it tho i usually have phone in hand doing anything on it other than watching the whole 60mins of speeches

i dont think the strory is good anymore its actually boring.

And i know Paul G is a good actor and so is "Brody" but i am bored of the speeches. I find the dialogue/interactions un-lifelike - now that being said i don't conversate with many Attorney generals or billionaires but even random convos they have on the show is more like a speech than a conversation. Bored of it but will watch it as not much else on

(ps- if anyone is looking for a good series watch snowfall - i am rewatching it and its still great)

I get what your saying. There is never a simple interaction or direct conversation, just a bunch of fancy speak. It’s was a brilliant first three seasons.

there was a spell in s3 where the pop culture references were just laughable. it felt like they cooled it a bit in s4 but now it's back with a vengeance. it's just unwatchable at times.

i saw this reddit post earlier which made me laugh:

Every time Chuck opens his mouth and speaks like he's a AI robot regurgitating metaphors, similes, and lines from obscure pop culture, history, and literature. Its just obnoxious at this point.

I remember my own father giving me a similar speech about risk/reward when I was around the same age in high school.

Same but it was basically insisting that the risk/reward of not wearing a condom at that age is equivalent to Pascal’s Wager (at least the infinite losses part).

As far as Taylor pc , "they" thing I feel like after all this time of hearing "they" even if you want to use she you dont so as NOT to confuse other people.

This would apply in real life and from a tv viewers point of view.
Though i STILL get confused sometimes for a second or two trying to
figure out if people talking about Taylor or a group of other people.

As a sidenote even though I thought the character was kinda cool at first,
Asia is just a stiff actress with limited range and the character is pretty damn boring
at this time.

I used to be excited for new episodes but now in no rush to watch them. First 3 ep of new season have
been thoroughly meh. Im pretty committed to watching so hoping this is last season if they are not going to do better. I find myself looking away when certain characters are on screen, that is a first.

i can understand that, just some russian gangster who'd probably spent only a few hours at most talking to taylor wouldn't really have that pronoun kicked into muscle memory, even people here itt keep using her

he's talking about killing her, no way he changes his normal and established thought process to pause and use her preferred word when discussing how to kill her

agreed with the rest, was very promising at first as an interesting character and then they just gave this halo of perfection without ever showing or demonstrating it and not just that, it wasn't just people in the firm who would be able to recognize her strengths but absolute total strangers are convinced to hand over millions to someone who was an intern a few months before and has no real record of performance - that's what killed it for me

"sorry axe but you promoted that intern who did a pretty good job in a 7 month stretch so we're pulling our money and trying that person out instead" no way ever is that happening

and then once the power grab began, taylor just became this one dimentional and predictably boring character

Watch the scene again starting about 2"10 min
He uses both ways "they" and "she"

It made sense to me
In that from a professional sense it was a formal "they" but
from his warped human perspective "She is your property."

ahh, missed that, just got so caught up on the they i ignored the she/her

btw for embedding at a certain time add this: ?start=130&

here that number is 130 for 130 seconds ie 2:10

Thanks Yeti. Figured it out. 'billions season 1 concert episode cast' was helpful.

He's the neighbour in The Americans. I still need to finish that show.

Another boring episode.
I dont get that ALL OF THE SUDDEN this Corey Stoll character is trying to do EVERYTHING
Axe wants to do

Good thing was minimal screen time with Taylor girlfriend character.

Mafee scenes had some redemption value.

Wonder if Axe gave that black family living in his old house any money.
Seemed impressed with the kid enough to help him with some education funds?
This show likes to force diversity so maybe they didnt want to play the White man to
the black family rescue card. This is a subtle observation because it just felt like he
would do something for them as he is going around trying to be the neighborhood hero.

When I watch scenes with Sacker I cant help but to see/think of Mama Phylicia everytime.

This Wags storyline blows, Kid is a dead ringer for the role of his son though.

Watching Frank Grillo in a non violent role is strange, I can accept a tough guy artist
character, just not yet with Frank though.

show is so awful. Spiros gets worse every episode. and now they got a female version that says the absolute cheesiest lines of all time. and I usually dont even mind the unrealisted and performative lines but my god her character is beyond cringey.
