In regards to your 2nd point, does anyone else think Kim tanking Mesa Verde, and doing Public Defender work, lead you to think she will end up back at HHM and that's the card Saul/Jimmy gave to Francesca?

Initially, I thought the first guy was passed over because he started talking about another job and Mike and Gus saw that as a red flag. Don't need him talking about this job down the road somewhere. After the 2nd guy gave his assessment of the job, I thought maybe Gus thinks this guy gets what he is after. The 2nd guy gave a much more detailed assessment of the job and seems to realize just how big of a job it will be.
I doubt she goes back to HHM even after she ditches Mesa Verde, but I agree that Jimmy most likely gave Fran Kim's contact info (assuming she is alive).

Not sure what to think about the mining case. It was probably a combination of 2nd guy being more observant and realistic and less of a salesman.

Re: Better Call Saul - season 4 - Aug. 6

Here is one more meta thing about 1st mining guy

He was selling that sheet like Jimmy was selling the copy machine guys
Unlike copy guys, Gus saw into that and wasnt buying.

Something to keep in mind when you are being sold. Is the person just talking a lot of fluff and bravado or does he really know how to do the job right.

Oh Im the best, you dont have to worry about me getting this right.
vs Here is why I am the best person for job because I will do this, this and this and here is why this is important.

Not to mention that Gus probably thinks fewer people will miss the 2nd guy after he "disappears" once the job is done.

Howard was really sad. You might say he's feeling (Hamlindigo) blue.

Oh, and does Gus just know German because he's Gus, and of course he does? Or, given the number of former Nazis that lived in South America (especially Chile), is this a clue as to "who he is" (the reason Don Eladio / Hector spared him in their first meeting)? Be nice to finally get an answer to that question.

They have a different editor this year and it shows. Kelly Dixon, who worked on the first three seasons, left the show before this season began.

That said, I still love it.

Fran already knows Kim in the BCS universe.

I am so confused about what's going on with Kim and Mesa Verde. Didn't she promise them that they'll be her only client? Why is she trying to lose them with all these shenanigans?

I've got the impression this might be something different than it appears.

Kim first started acting strangely when she saw how many out-of-state banks Mesa Verde was planning to establish.

It made me think she might have some unknown legal problem outside of New Mexico- something that would prevent her from representing Mesa Verde.

I'm thinking Kim might have deliberately made an obvious error on the paperwork and made herself unavailable to fix it so that Mesa Verde would have to complete and file the paperwork themselves. In that way, Kim wouldn't have to sign off on some document that she's concerned she can't legally do.

So, Kim might not be trying to sabotage her relationship with Mesa Verde. She may be trying to save it rather than exposing herself to some legal risk or recusing herself from the job.

Yes, the switch turned off in the scene where Kevin was showing her the models of the offices they would build in the various expansion States. A cool VG touch was one of the models was of a typical structure "tipped over" 45 degrees.

Prior to that, Kim was going to prepare the document the Paralegal offered to take on, but after that scene she decided to pass it on to her Paralegal after all.

Kim hypothesis: Gilligan & Co. just really suck at writing female characters.

This is quite possible. My initial reaction was that she was worried that the scope of her role would get too big, and that is not what she wanted either. She wants/needs to be relevant and respected, but it seems she also does not want (or thinks she can't handle) being the top dog. Perhaps she is self-sabotaging things because part of her thinks she wont be able to cope.. And the accident has contributed to her thinking that way...

Re: Better Call Saul - season 4 - Aug. 6

I feel like Chuck's death has affected all of the characters in different ways. Howard is obviously beside himself and spiraling downward. I think Kim now believes her role should not just be about the money, so she is is finding ways to make herself feel more meaningful to individuals. Jimmy is clearly going down his dark path and slowly losing the remaining humanity that he possessed. It seems too complicated for Kim to just be avoiding the paperwork for a legal reason; she just doesn't see the value to it anymore.
