I saw something else completely. I thought Jimmy was giving Howard some much-needed tough love. A metaphorical slap in the face, "Pull yourself together, man!"

It's not believable at all. The writers dropped the ball here wrt to their relationship. They're writing it like 2 friends living together. I've had more chemistry and sexytime with my female roommates ffs.

Just because their relationship doesnt conform to way you THINK it should be(conventional) doesnt mean the writers have dropped the ball.

They are 2 friends living together
They love each other very much but are not lovey dovey by nature.
To me their chemistry is great as they have always looked out for each other and
have great insight on how the other is feeling.

Mailroom Jimmy and mailroom/law student Kim had a little chemistry.

She didn't realize how hot she was, did nothing but work and study, and fell for Jimmy.
He realized right away that she was totally out of his league and knows she's gonna leave him someday.

He became a lawyer hoping to impress her.
He took the job at Davis and Maine hoping that would make/keep them a couple.

I don't want them to be lovey dovey, I want to understand why they are together. I especially want to understand what Kim is getting out of it, but I don't because I don't understand anything about Kim at all. She has no back story. She has no motive. She has no depth. She's a prop.

Kim Wexler has been in every single episode of this show and I don't know a damn thing about her. People are excited when Huell shows up. They loved the Gale cameo. But does anybody GAF about Kim, at all? If she dies in the next episode everybody will shrug.

This is actually a good point. Right now Kim is actively trying to sabotage her relationship with Mesa Verde and we have no effing clue why and how it got there. We can only speculate. I assume it will be explained at some later point but with these writers you never know.

Poor writing imo. There's so little depth to Kim's character that we don't know her motivations. The only thing we do know is that she's fiercely loyal to Jimmy, but WHY?

I sorta agree with this. My biggest concern for Kim is how big of a price she will pay for her relationship with Jimmy. We know it ends. Just how badly is the only question. Does she pay with her life? Her profession?

Seems like Kim bringing in that firm points to what some people speculated about her having some legal issues or skeletons in the closet in some location that Mesa Verde is looking into.

She says the law firm resources can take care of Mesa Verde, giving her time to do what she likes.
Pro bono work for the public defender? She says she likes helping people.

Maybe she's rethinking having a con man for a boyfriend.

Jimmy can convince anyone of anything. He’s matt parkman. He used his powers to make kim love him without actually liking him. She is trapped going through the motions

You guys may be on to something.

Its funny that I have never even considered
"what is her motivation"
as this whole time I have been "in love with her"
as the loyal and will do anything for you girlfriend.

Maybe the point is that she seems to have it all together
but is really lost

The point behind the scenes showing Kim wanting to get back to practicing criminal law and the HHM flashback scene is to illustrate the differences between why she went into practicing law and why Jimmy did, and how those are the primary forces starting to drive a wedge between them now.

Kim went into law because she loves it and wants to try to truly help people. Jimmy went into it to try to impress his big brother and Kim. He does not have the same moral compass that Kim and Chuck have(or had) and she is slowly starting to realize that.

Kim was uncomfortable enough with his practices that she has refused to form a business partnership with him on 2 occasions now, which will further free Jimmy up to "take shortcuts" was how I think Kim put it the 1st time around. Of course those shortcuts eventually lead Jimmy into becoming Saul.

The only thing forcing Jimmy to keep up the good guy charade is he knows it will ruin their relationship. I think the end of their relationship is what this season is building to by the time we hit the end of it and next season all hell will break loose.

Another sign pointing that way is that the super lab is under construction. Going to be tough to stall intersecting with the BB timeline once that is done.

I have to imagine that all of the questions related to Kim are left unanswered at this point as a way to encourage us to continue watching.

It's only a matter of time before they break up. She's a straight arrow and Jimmy's crooked. Deep down, she knows it but is choosing to remain blind to it. I just hope it doesn't end up being a situation where Jimmy ends up getting arrested and she has to prosecute him at the end of the season. It would be such an absurd plot twist.
