Yeah, that seemed like bad/convenient writing at first but now makes sense.

I thought Chuck was in on screwing Jimmy once he made the call, but his fake surprised face during the meeting sealed it for me.

I'm starting to wonder if this RICO case takes so long that it actually finishes after the events of Breaking Bad and now Jimmy/Saul is managing a Cinnabon, while waiting for his 20% payday to finally come.

I caught that as well, but chalked it up with the fact that he was on edge being outside. Well played, Chuck!!

I rewatched the meeting and there is no psychic reading of McKean's grimacing you can do without spoilers. The only thing out of whack was Paul's extended whining about how unfair Hamlin was. Normally the alpha doesn't ***** for so much time.

Your earthly reward is mandatory catering the Westboro Weddings.

On the suit, they generally go through all of discovery, and bill those hours, so they get an idea of what it would settle for. IRL expect a few years and the nursing home doesn't even dream of going to trial.

Of the $15 Mil going to HHM, so much gets deducted for the "costs", then Jimmy would get 20% of whats left after that.
that was my first thought, but i thought hamlin specifically said 20% of the pool?

wouldn't the pool be the total amount awarded not the fees?

either way its clearly a huge sum.

Re: Better Call Saul: Premieres on Feb 8/9

Great episode, really disappointed in Chuck.

Everything that Jimmy becomes from that point forward is his fault. He tried to do right, but he was still looked at as the scumbag he once was (and Jimmy obviously realizes Chuck's right, which makes it hurt more for him). Chuck's jealousy was definitely believable. He's the guy who had to work his azz off for everything he got, while Jimmy effortlessly skated through life never trying but easily succeeding at everything he did (including online law school, and eventually being able to pass the Bar). He also likely got endless passes to get back to where he was at this point in the show.

One place I'd like them to mine with Chuck is the exact moment where his condition started. Was it right after he bailed Jimmy out for the last time, or was it later? I wonder if they'll get into that.

Giving Jimmy 20% of the gross would essentially be screwing the clients and/or themselves.

In reality, if the case has merit, it should never go to trial. It'll be a case of stall, stall, stall, stall <years go by>, settle.

Really liking this so far. They're hitting the right balance of drama and comedy, which I suppose should be expected.

I wasn't meaning in the present. I was meaning at the point where jealousy would have been sown between him and Chuck (likely the teen years). Chuck's a bit older than Jimmy (how much we don't really know), but there's a good chance he watched Jimmy skate through his youth, make everything look easy, and then become the scammer he became. Jimmy's a classic underachiever, who's now trying to achieve in a big way (he took his last chance and tried to make the most of it). He just didn't build the right background, or go about it in the right way for Chuck to embrace the "new" him. It's kind of why Chuck basically pushed Jimmy into becoming a PD. He felt that's the kind of career he should have, doing law for losers, not law for "winners". Chuck's arc is very believable, but it doesn't make you any less disappointed in what he did twice to Jimmy.

Re: Better Call Saul: Premieres on Feb 8/9

chuck being jealous of jimmy makes no sense.
chuck is a partner in a multi million dollar law firm, jimmy is doing slip n falls from the back of a nail salon.

it's resentment at him not "honoring the law" (which is obv absurdly insane) and him not wanting jimmy to succeed.

Your read seems wrong here. He essentially told Jimmy that he was jealous that he worked his AZZ off to get where he is and Jimmy is trying to get to the same place by taking an online law course. The rest of that stuff is justification for his reasoning. There's definitely something much deeper going on between them.

How big of a deal was it for Chuck to use his code for the paper work? Something like that wouldn't be the factor in taking away the case from Jimmy, jimmy would just have to pay HHM the cost of using their resources. Correct? I just don't see how HHM would be able to screw Jimmy over and steal the case even if they wanted to.

i think its resentment that he is in the position to get such a huge windfall from the class action.

its not jealousy.

tho i guess its an unnecessary semantics argument.

Tortious interference with a contractual relationship (the relationship between HHM and chuck). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tortious_interference

Meanwhile, chuck being on his high horse is really pathetic for several reasons, not the least of which is that he practices in ABQ which I have to think isn't a glamorous spot in the hallowed halls of jurisprudence. Take that attitude to new york.

Re: Better Call Saul: Premieres on Feb 8/9

not to mention the fact he's out of his mind crazy and jimmy has been bending over backwards to help him and take care of him, and the only reason he's even feeling well enough to leave the house and return to work is because of jimmy.

chuck is a real self righteous pos.

Re: Better Call Saul: Premieres on Feb 8/9

rbk, yeah, I think it's more of a semantics argument. I think we can both agree that Chuck sux for what he did to Jimmy, and that everything Jimmy becomes both could have been avoided by supporting him, as well as it being Chuck's fault.

Considering how much Jimmy looked out for him, it makes the disappointment that much more cutting. Jimmy's response to Chuck's betrayal is essentially, "You still look at me as Slippin' Jimmy? It's all good man. I get it now. Don't ever forget you made me who I'm going to be."

The diploma in Saul’s office is from the “University of American Samoa”, which isn’t actually an accredited law school. In fact, if you go the UoAS Facebook page, there’s a picture of Saul! Saul may just be the most presentable alumnus (which doesn’t bode well for the other UoAS grads) or the producers of the show may have decided to avoid defamation suits by picking a fictitious university (after all, what law school would want to claim Saul as one of its own?), but either way his education is in question.
Damn, I was hoping University of American Samoa was real. Imagine the product placement opportunity here.

It's a message board theory only. Only the client can fire or hire a lawyer so the old people would have to declare they want Jimmy gone and HHM in. State Bars frown upon lawyers attempting to recruit other lawyers' clients.

They mentioned Saul Goodman already in 2012 on their Facebook page.
