Better Call Saul - Season 1 Better Call Saul - Season 1

I was expecting him to drop dead on the spot as they telegraphed the scene with Chuck obviously walking out to the car when Saul lays down on the couch. But when he dropped the box and didn't keel over in the same motion, I'm not expecting it now.

When he said $20 Million, I got pissed off. They could have settled right there for $300k at least which for Jimmy would have been life changing. Hamlin steals the case somehow and I think the prediction of Chuck getting a heart attack is not too far off.

Best show on tv. Mckean and Odenkirk are killing if. That's all, just accept it. What show is better than this?

The only other show that comes close is Hannibal. We'll see if they can recover from where they left off.

Also Fargo and True detective are same level but they are one season wonders at this point.

This thing ain't doing that at all.

They should've worked on something new from scratch instead of this. They for sure would've had no trouble getting the network on board. Right now It just feels like the creative team's talents are being wasted. Jm2c
Agreed. I said something that wasn't as constructive after last weeks episode. Gets love because BB is a GOAT show contender (and for me, #1). To the people who say, "omg best show on tv". It's the only show I watch on tv. It's not that good. I'd give it around 3-4/10. Some really good moments but the dull drawn out scenes happen too often and make it below what I'd think average is. Certainly not enjoyable but being a BB freak, I'm going to stick out 20 seasons even at this pace.

You think this show is a 4/10 at best?

What show in your mind is even a 7/10, please enlighten me?

I enjoyed this episode, but got uncomfortable during the dumpster scene.

What % of $300k are you expecting Jimmy to get?

He's driving at best a $500 car and works out of a nail salon. $10,000 is pretty substantive.

lawyers usually get 30-33%. I would think Jimmy would get at least 50% of that. it's his case after all, his brother is helping him.

If you think the show is only average, why are you wasting your time watching it. There are clearly 25+ better shows on TV, in your opinion, yet you are watching it anyway?

I focus on what I think are the best 3-5% of shows on TV, and cant imagine having the time or inclination to watch a show I personally rated 3-4/10, or average.

This was the episode that hooked me. A middle-aged guy who fell off the pace but is trying to move up in a world that's not going to hand him anything speaks directly to me. Saul has to grind everything he'll ever get. And he seems up to it. We know he's got the charm and the smarts. We also know it won't work out. The underlying meta dooming every positive step him and Mike take.

I loved that Saul stayed whispering in that dumpster and killed the phone conversation with the bigshot lawyer (and it still wouldn't have gotten him anywhere if not for the next bit), only to randomly find the smoking gun papers afterwards. It's the kind of beautiful, determined detail that these writers specialize in. And it's truth. You grind, you come from behind, you do the best you can and sometimes it works out.

I didn't appreciate the Bulls-Pistons reference though. Motor City Bad Boys #1.

"Go Landcrabs," and "If you touch your tongue to it and it goes bzzzt" were great lines.

Was liking it at first, but I haven't been in a rush to catch up after the much-ballyhooed Mike feature with all its bathos and cliched dialogue ("He was a good cop", lol) and the start of the episode after it.

I could go for some good writing. I mean don't get me wrong, it's still watchable, but it's not even in the same universe as shows like BB and The Wire. I mean, in BB we knew in the first five minutes we were watching something special, here it's been five eps and the only character I kinda like is the lawyer chick. Who knows, maybe I'll be proven wrong but so far I ain't seeing it.

The first five minutes of BB involved Walter blazing through the desert in his undies and makeshift meth lab, calling his wife. We all knew from that open that BB would be something special and be the greatest TV drama in television history. Riiiiiiiiiight

BB was a fiction writer's wet dream. BCS is a character study. Comparing the two at every turn is silly.

I mean to some extent I agree. High school science teacher with cancer turns meth dealer is a more exciting premise for a show than mediocre lawyer turns bad. Quality wise though, in terms of how this show looks, the acting and also the writing, it's better than the beginning of BB. Watch that again for comparison, it was really quite rough around the edges in the beginning.

I suspect people who want the action and suspense of BB will be satisfied in the future though when Jimmy becomes Saul and starts representing some real criminals and Mike starts doing his thing.

When that Ron Silver-looking lawyer mentioned they had 12 properties, I blinked, and heard a cash register sound effect "ka-CHING!" in my head. If Chuck would take $20M to settle, how much do you think he'll sue for? $50M+treble damages? Hoo boy.

(Grisham wrote a novel called "The King of Torts", I think, about high-rolling lawyers who go after these class-action suits. They're the richest lawyers in the world, they all own private jets, because they keep earning 1/3rd of these 7-figure verdicts/settlements. Instead of Grisham's usual "little guy takes on the big boys in court," it was more like Goodfellas or Wolf of Wall Street "little guy gets corrupted, gets rich, ****s it up," but set amongst lawyers.)

No. Those who don't like this show DO like it; they're just mad that they don't love it, because they came to the party really, really wanting to love it, and it's not what they were hoping it would be....which is more explosions and gunfire, I guess.

Lots of people are still high off of BB and overrating because of it.

I clearly stated why I'm watching it. Can you not comprehend what I said? It's difficult to explain it better, but I could try, just for you.

Good thing that I couldn't care less what you watch or what you had the inclination to watch. I also clearly stated this is the ONLY show on tv that I watch and, once again, why I do so. Please try to comprehend before making such a useless post.
