Can't wait to watch Mike become the bad-ass we all know and love.

Yeah, at this point in time Mike just seems like a depressed, retired and possibly disgraced former cop. The Mike in BB would not have let himself get made sitting in his car and he wouldn't have been surprised by the police at his door. He became someone who was always one step ahead.

I got the feeling he wanted to be seen in his car.

Random guessing of things that may be obvious: Mike went from Philly cop to ABQ parking ticket taker because he went to be closer to his daughter (mother of his granddaughter we see him hanging out with in BB), who probably has a restraining order or something against him, hence cops show up?

I disagree, I think he comes off as an entitled douche a lot, and like Jimmy said his self-interest was totally transparent when he showed up at the hospital.

As an old Carnivale fan, I'm happy whenever Clea DuVall shows up on screen.
Hey, that reminds me: as an old Luck fan, I was happy when I saw Kerry Condon's name show up in the opening credits...but now I don't recall her in the ep. Was she playing Mike's daughter?

(And yes, Mike wanted to be seen by her; and no, the cop he knew didn't come "a long way from home" because of that.)

Loved that Jimmy's elder law suit was inspired by Matlock's suits...lol (Matlock had a closet full of that exact suit that he wore over and over, and he was extremely resistant to change).

The absurdity of the clients was awesome. We finally saw some good comedy, mixed in with a bunch of downer and goofy stuff. I like that the show is willing to take time with certain beats. Most are afraid to. I can't be the only one who thought the second car was going to be important. I think the point of the scene was just to show he has a s****y job and a s****y life, and needs something else to do. I'm very interested in what's next.

Ep's slow pace was definitely a demonstration of how slow and boring Jimmy's and Mike's attempts at clean living are. I chuckled the entire time that lady rode down the stairs (my mom has one of those things, it probably goes 3x faster in real life, they really slowed it down for that scene) and waddled across the floor--and how Jimmy almost tackled her when she threatened to take another step.

And they HAVE to make the diner scene long, the work-till-sunrise montage long, to give a true sense of Mike's lonely hell.

Don't know if it's known when the TV show is set but these images kinda confirm it

Woah I thought Mike already was a bad ass. When Mike was going to press charges against Jimmy and he overheard him talking to the detectives about the Kettlemans (EP3, 38:32), Mike's ears perked up and he said he wasn't going to press charges. I figured Mike knew something about the Kettlemans and him working as a parking attendant was a front, you know, like lazer tag.

Think it's more likely his condition was triggered by questionable law practices by himself/his law firm.

Jimmy: From here on out I'm going to play by the rules.
Chuck: As any lawyer should. (with look of regret on his face)

FYP

I remember her from Luck, too, but she had a much bigger part in Rome.

"uh"

Saul has a terrible poker face. That scene had me dying when he wasnt able to make out a word just soft sounds.

Speaking as someone from the minority who *didn't* hate it when The Sopranos focused entire seasons on female characters (Carmela, Adrianna)...I still fast forward through the female-centric scenes in Rome.

Nice job. Be interesting to see if you're right, but it was a strange line, so it probably means SOMETHING.

"1 million dollars? That seems.....fair."

I didn't know what he was going to say and it had me cracking up.

Gotta say the show nailed it with the absurd client intakes. Anybody who hangs out a shingle and starts a practice from scratch without a book of business will have some similar stories.

This was to some extent more of what I was expecting.

Was figuring that there'd be a more comedic twist to the show to begin with.

Anyway, seems like they're setting up for something big with this episode.

First 5 episodes of BCS are certainly better than the first 5 of Breaking Bad. Saying that isn't much of a stretch.

That said, this feels like a 3 season show, give or take. I don't think they can do much more.

No, she was the daughter. The doctor was played by Clea Duvall.

Yes, this is correct. The daughter's registration stickers both had 2s on them, so I think it's pretty clearly 2002. Breaking Bad was present day when it started in 2007, right? The timeline seems to match up.
