Kinda shocked there isn't a thread yet. This blew me away. Season 1 was great, but season 2.... I can recall very few 'sit up and pay attention' moments in my tv-watching career, and episode 6 had me sitting up and paying attention throughout its entirety.

Been a lot of talk in the general and Netflix thread, but yeah this show deserves its own thread. Ep 7 was great as well, but Ep 6 was an all timer.

Great show, one thing I don't get is that....

Spoiler:
Why did they borrow more money from their Uncle? Apparently they own the lot so couldn't they get a much better and long term loan off the land that is supposed to be worth $2 mil?

Something has bothered me about the cans all along, specifically how they were labeled

Spoiler:
Obviously, KBL for Cicero Kalinkowski, Berzatto and L for?? Uncle Lee? He surely didn't come across in S2E6 as the kind of guy putting up cash for a family business, kinda came across to me like a scammer, trying to get the mom interested in some real estate hustle??(

So I found this. Obviously a clue of some kind was hidden in the picture (that NOBOBY is catching on normal viewing) but a few of the comments in the thread made me go hmmm, specifically about the cans and how they are labeled - what it may mean. Are we in for an epic plot twist that would change the entire flavor of the series?

Maybe we are, but that thread is not going to be the explanation. For me that's the worst way to enjoy a tv show. If and when they want us to know more about why, for instance, Carmy puts jeans in his oven, they'll tell us. If KBL turns out to be really important, they'll tell us. Trying to second-guess them is the opposite of enjoying the ride. Just enjoy the ride.

Agree 100%, micro analyzing TV shows is the Nut-Low path to viewing enjoyment.

Probably should not have linked to a conspiracy thread from Reddit but the question Electricladylnd asked was also something that I've wondered about and didn't seem to 'sit right' based on the rest of what we have seen.

That sort of fascination with detail was sorta fun with Lost, but I felt like that attitude directly contributed to people setting up the show to be able to give compelling resolution to a huge range of problems and thus a lot of people were disappointed in what I thought was a great ending. But since then it feels like showrunners know that a portion of the market love being titillated by these almost gratuitous details that people love to hunt for and attach significance to, most of which amount to nothing, and manipulate this need for answers by just asking more questions. I don't want to be a part of that, and it runs counter to being in the moment, which feels like the best way to enjoy most things that aren't Primer.

I feel like I remember something happening in season 2 where they find out the lot is worth a lot less than they hoped, I think it was Cicero saying it?

I tried to watch this show but I just finished Shameless and I can't stand "sober Lip".

Maybe I'll give it a shot in a few months.

Watched the 1st episode of S3 last night and felt it could have been accomplished in 5 minutes.

On a positive note, I was afraid I would want to binge it instead of getting work done today and episode 1 made me decide I can wait til tomorrow or the weekend to watch another.

2nd episode was completely opposite of the first. Turned the volume up to 12 for no reason. All over the place so far and after each episode I needed a break.

Haven't started this season yet, but to anyone who has seen it: Is there a "Fishes" equivalent this season? If so, did they try to top it? I'm looking forward to watching it but it's so anxiety inducing that I want to make sure I prepare myself first lol

I felt like the 2nd episode was trying to go that direction on a smaller scale but it didn’t work at all. 7 fishes was captivating, S3E2 first 10 minutes was nauseating.

This show in the end will be measured by the series finale. The core of it is already all-time stuff.

Will they avoid going too many seasons.

Will they find a satisfactory ending.

Looking forward to finding out. Based on the pacing right now 4 seasons might be the sweet spot (since it's already renewed). The troubled chef thing for 5+ seasons? Dunno....maybe. Like go full Bourdain.

I'll probably reserve judgement on that until after season 4, if that's the end. So far I doubt I'll agree with the pretty bad audience reviews for season 3 though.

Didn't they already shoot season 4 or are right now? Thought they had planned on doing it back to back.

My thoughts on season 3 - no actual spoilers but putting in spoilers should people not want to hear opinions prior to watching themselves:

Spoiler:
I found season 3 to be a major disappointment and deeply unsatisfying, and should one be so inclined I think watching this can wait until season 4 drops. I agree with almost everything in this Slate review.

Spoiler:
I’ve only watched the first episode of this season, and I’ll be taking my sweet time to finish. I’m in no rush and to be honest it may take quite awhile.

I actually had a similar conversation with a friend a couple of months ago and I was saying that The Bear (prior to S3) was on the short list of best shows currently airing. They agreed because they thought it truly was. But my point wasn’t so much about the quality of The Bear and more about the lack of truly outstanding shows being made now, post-Succession. Perhaps that has changed since April, but I don’t think so. There are plenty of good to great shows, but I can’t think of a single show that is actually “prestige” airing now. Maybe the GoT spinoff but I don’t watch that.

The Bear doesn’t qualify as prestige to me. At all. My biggest concern with this new season is that’ll want to play the hits. I’m expecting a “Fishes-plus” episode and I shouldn’t be. It reminds me of True Detective’s second season where the big action piece that ended an episode was basically a “same thing but make it more” from the first season. I knew that 2nd season of TD was not nearly as good as S1, but that episode made me realize that S2 was just bad.

All that said, no goddamn way can this show still be considered a comedy. They’re freaking cheating if they submit it for that again.
