babe heffron died like 3mo ago IIRC.
such an amazing group of guys.
I've watched BoB more times then I can count, it's my absolute fav tv show ever made, and no matter how many times I watch it I'm still floored at what these guys accomplished and how absurdly tough/brave they were.

Read the book some time, if you haven't yet. The most interesting character was Capt Soebel (David Schwimmer's character).

You guys badmouth Soebel all you want--but he was a major reason (pardon the pun) that Easy was the greatest company ever.

there is no doubt (as is made clear in the show and book) that he was very good at training soldiers.
however that doesn't preclude him from also being a huge *******.

it is possible to be a good leader and not have your entire company hate your guts (i'm not just talking out of my ass, i've read a TON of military history books including a bunch of memoirs and the two are def not mutually exclusive).

also, while you can train discipline etc you can't train bravery, loyalty and ingenuity.

dick winters was a legit military genius, and people like capt. spiers and wild bill etc weren't molded into the soldiers they were just cuz of sobel's training.

I always felt like one of the reasons they were so good was the immediate bonding they had in training. Bonding that came out the shared hate of Sobel. So not only did he push them harder than the other training groups, but they also bonded more because he was such a total asshat.

i def think that played a part, but you simply can't overlook the individual characteristics the company had.
dick winters was legit military genius, LT. spears (sp?) was just an insane badass, and there were a bunch of other guys that were just extraordinarily brave and self-less.
its not like bill guarene, lipton or malarkey did what they did cuz of sobel.

i def understand the point i just think people are giving sobel a little too much credit.

sure they had good training, but alot of the things they accomplished you can't just chalk up to their shared hatred of sobel.

i mean lets face it, most ppl in sobel's position are universally hated so its not like he was SOOOOO much worse then your avg guy in that position.

look at seal training, or ranger training or 1st SFOD training etc.
any elite special forces unit is going to have intense training and its much more a factor of the individuals that comprise the company then just "meh we had such a ****ty captain"

Exactly this.
Usually every year I marathon it. Then youtube clips every now and then

Welsh "Does it hurt"
Winters "A little"
Welsh "War is Hell" smiles and walks away. Love that moment

Final moments of the show

Major Winters and Captain Spiers are two of television's great characters.

Captain Spiers
("The amazing thing was, after he hooked up with I-company, he came back")

Major Winters

I guess people can post their favorite scenes, I think one of the most common ones is probably this, when the German officer speaks to his men after surrender:

Some of the best parts for me were the interviews with surviving soldiers, particularly Dick Winters, I remember him getting emotional at one point and it was such a powerful moment.

I'm another huge fan of this show for all of the reasons mentioned here. But I also had a personal reason. My uncle, PFC Frederick G. Rotterman, Jr. was in the 508th PIR, 82nd Airborne. The 508th also jumped into Normandy -as was referenced in at least one scene in an early episode of BoB. Due to the scattered jumps, some of the 508th troopers were mixed in with the 506th and fought alongside them for a bit. I've even seen the 508th referred to as a "sister company" of the 506th. Sadly, my uncle Fred never returned. He was wounded just outside St. Mer Eglise on or about June 11th, 1944, and died of his wounds a few days later. He was the youngest of my 5 maternal uncles - who all also served in WWII - and he was my grandmother's favorite. She begged him not to join the paratroopers, but he was steadfast. My grandmother grieved his death until the day she died, and was very active with the Gold Star Mothers for over 30 years. When she died, she left me her favorite photo of him in his trooper boots, along with his Purple Heart and his company patches - including his Red Devils "Fury from the Sky" patch. Those memorabilia are carefully wrapped and tucked away, and that photo of him has been hanging on a wall everywhere I've lived for the past 33 years. He was my hero. But I never quite understood what he went through until Bof B made it so clear. I will be watching it again soon. And thanks much to OP and all of the others who have added to this thread.

Are there any other actors from this show that blew up like Tom Hardy? Most of the guys have parts here and there but some of the guys I expected to blow up kinda just fell off the radar and then popped up in tv shows/movies here and there.
