I assume culpepper was a fairly big name in the US. Compare him to Lee. I have watched every season of the "big bash" which he claimed to play in and no idea who he is.

It would be like claiming you played in the NBA summer series I guess if you wanted a comparison. Yeh, there are some big names but not all of them play and you get lots of fill ins.

So far the production quality seems on par with the US version and the cast seems really good.

yeh im surprised. its not like x factor or any other reality show where 99% of the time is spent on contestents sad stories in the past.

how are they doing it jb91? another ep tomorrow night. more than 1 a week?

Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. Production is incredibly similar to the US, cast seems ok, LaPaglia doing his best Probst impression and doing a decent job for his first episode.

Cleary: from what I've heard every Sunday/Monday. Interestingly Nine moved up the premiere of The Block from Monday to tonight to directly compete with Survivor

Enjoyed the ep. Castaways and host still finding their feet but plenty of optimism to stick around.

Episodes go up pretty quick on the channel Ten website. Non Aus guys will need to use a VPN. Alternatively torrents and links have already appeared ~3 hours after airing.

The quality on torrents isn't really great. Is the video on their site in HD?

Production value looks good (ok, I'm just 10 minutes in), definitely giving this a shot.

Echo everything that's been said.

My rooting interests after ep 1 are Rohan, Nick, Sam and Conner.

Damn, they're getting grilled at tribal council and most players are sabotaging themselves with their answers.

Last night didn't crack 800k viewers, the Block probably had a lot to do with it. Be very interesting to see how tonight's did

Caught the last 2 eps. Pretty good so far, good production, good cast. Only gripe is the terrible host. He's a wet blanket, completely robotic and devoid of any personality. Two episodes in and I have yet to see him crack a smile. The Julie Chen of hosting. Glad that RHAP is covering it as well.

I don't agree at all. I think he's very well suited for the role.

I also think I've seen him before, guess I should look up where (I'm not an Aussie obv).

I'm not feeling the host. Seems to me like he's trying too hard to be a Jeff Probst clone but without the wit and humor of Jeff. Hopefully he gets better as the season goes along.

Going to give it a go for the season. Excellent production and it's on for 2 nights every week, terrific. Should be exactly the same as the US version but without the stupid blurring of a butt crack or nip slip that CBS are so worried about offending the religious puritans in America.

Just caught up on the first two episodes. Really enjoyed it and I think the casting so far seems really good.

When I saw it was in Samoa I was assuming that is also the location for the next two seasons of American survivor. Then I looked and saw the seasons will be in fiji. Seems to me if they could film all 3 in the same location they could save on some costs.

Anyone up for some survivor survivor. Prob don't have enough people watching it but I would certainly be down.

through 2. some great looking girls. strat seems like a pretty early season of US to this point, though with 24 people there's bound to be riffraff. Cast seems relatively compelling though. Should be in for the season.

lol Des. He needs his own show.

Host is ok, though he seems like a slightly drunk version of Probst.

The network has decided to start airing three episodes every week, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Kind of crazy that by the end of next week they'll already have voted off 5 people. With this schedule the finale will be early October.

This is great news. One thing I noticed is that the episodes are also slightly longer than the US version, not sure if it was because of the two night premiere. First episode was 1.5hrs and second episode was 55 mins if I recall. Hopefully the trend keeps up and there's more footage of the contestants interacting with each other and strategizing. With 24 people there's plenty of footage. I would so much prefer this format than the current US version where it's pretty much all competitions and then there's only 5 mins left for strategy. A slower paced show works for me as I like to see more of the cast interacting with each other even just sitting around telling jokes, see some funny and quirky moments. Would make it easier to understand the tribe dynamics better so we don't go to tribal and get blindsided.

Just checked on Tenplay that the Sunday episodes are indeed 1.5hrs every week, nice! I see that you can stream it live there with vpn. Wondering if we have to put in our cable sub details like we do here, hopefully not. Also I notice it doesn't say what time zones it's on, weird. I assume Austrailia has the same eastern and western time zones like we do here. Would be easier to know when it's on.

Yeah I watch it live on Tenplay and it's pretty much hassle free. Episodes go up pretty quickly as well so can watch whenever. If you can sort out a VPN it should be fine however it airs at 7:30pm eastern Australian time which is 5:30am EDT.

Australian TV networks are actually super competitive as there are only three major players. I think at some point they worked out that if they make the 7:30pm show go until 8:40pm then the people watching are less likely to change channel to watch a show that started at 8:30pm.

Cool thanks, this explains why the the Monday episode clocked in at 55 mins. That's about 15 mins longer than the US version which is usually 40mins. I like the idea of a longer episode, seems pretty ridiculous to me that we cram so much into 40mins in the US version. By showing more of the tribe dynamics it might even eliminate the dreaded "winner's edit".

You knew something was sketchy last season when Michelle of all people started getting airtime late in the game when she was invisible in all strategy talk all season. She was a non factor throughout the season and got screen time that made no sense in the context of the game. Not saying I wanted to see more of Michelle but it's pretty ridiculous when people are paying more attention to the edit she's getting than her actual game and concluded correctly that she was the eventual winner.

Even in Mike Hollaway's season, Rodney was a legitimate threat to win it all but we'd never know that from watching the show. Explains why Mike voted him out on finale night when it appeared he was a perfect goat. Would've been great to see more of Rodney doing Dan Foley impersonations on the show and just seeing him goof around. Instead CBS decides it's more important that we spend time on reward challenges.

Hopefully the ratings keep up for AU. For me specifically it could turn out to be a more superior show than the US version with the longer episodes and multiple nights a week. Gives the cast members more airtime and hopefully makes the "winner's edit" go away.
