10/10 so far

Every episode has been a 10/10 except the one from last week, which was slightly less good but reached higher so it evens out, imo. This last episode was perfect. I can already tell this is going to be a show that annoys me by not being as popular as it should be.

Somebody needs to make a gif of Paperboy rounding up Earn and company to get their money

goofy,

what am I supposed to be seeing there?

seems like a reference to Nathan Fielder of "Nathan For You".

but i'm sad that it wasn't him in the role, or that the guy didn't really seem to play the character like NF. just a random shoutout from Glover i guess.

The opening shot of him standing in the grass looking away was straight out of NFY too.

That was my favorite episode so far, even with the barfing. It hit everything on just about all cylinders. This show is so good with the music, too. Invisible car photos were hilarious. I almost wish they didn't pay it off at the end, but it was still worth it.

club episode was the nuts so far i think.

A++++

the invisible car was incredible as was pretty much everything else in this episode.

With the end of the last episode it seems like the incidents are what propels him to fame, but I love how they're a bit of a subversion of the typical rapper trope. You often hear stories of rap stars getting into trouble, and it quickly gets written off as thugs doing thug ****, but both of paperboy's incidents are completely explainable, and actually more so a problem of the world he lives in rather than an innate criminal characteristic. Like the shooting, he's gonna get fame from being a "real hood *****" when he's really not (at least in the incidents that bring him attention).

The club beatdown actually reminded me of the time Puff Daddy beat down a rapper with his cellphone because he owed Diddy money and tried to clown him when asked about it.

Umm, he sells drugs professionally and beat that guy down like a genuine gangster. He carries a gun almost at all times. I think he IS a thug, he's just not a murderer.

Yeah, I was drunk when I wrote that and I even had this moment as I was typing where I thought "I'm not sure this is correct". But I liked the way it sounded.

not sure I've seen a show this revolutionary since Twin Peaks.

Love how it goes from zany and comedic to deep and dramatic, within the same episode.

Finale next week?

Louis CK probably paved the road for this kind of thing, and now this is taking it to new levels. Gotten to the point where you just can't expect anything anymore. Funny part is there's almost zero rap in a show about rappers, lol. I'm pretty pumped for when the music starts to get more involved.

thought that one kinda sucked tbh

this world where basically everyone other than Glover is a cartoon character is meh

It was on the money social commentary, but there weren't a lot of funny moments in it. That's what happens when you don't put Darius in it.

Still a good episode, even though it was the worst of the season by a good margin. Not making the slam poem amazing was a missed opportunity, imo. It would have been hilarious to keep all the tropes of the "white guy obsessed with black people" but then turn around and have him delivery a kickass performance.

It was picking on pretending. Are you trying to say that I don't understand the point of the episode with the Seinfeld clip? If we were talking about BAN, you'd be right, because I have no clue what his point was with that episode. Thinking this is some straightforward TV show without biting commentary is a mistake. It's pretty much all social commentary draped in a bunch of funny situations.

no, i was saying that i don't know what the amazing social commentary in that ep was supposed to be
(and i'm kinda skeptical that there was much of any there)

It was about pretending. Everyone at that party was pretending to be something they weren't. But it was put out there that none of the people pretending (other than Craig's wife, Earn, and Van) thought they were.

similar to my thoughts ^

fine show, will keep watching, but failing to see greatness, or anything very revolutionary about it

and what surreal Twin Peaks esque stuff is supposedly in here?

There isn't much watchable TV on right now. Westworld, Better Things, and Atlanta are the only, scripted, shows I think I'm watching nowadays.
