NYT has reader predictions. My fave:

“Paige will escape. To Slovenia. And change her name to Melania.”

Consistent with the whole show. Quiet when you expect loud. Scene with Stan in the garage and then Stan reacting to the reveal at the the FBI worth the lack of action.

Poor Stan now has to live with the burden of questioning his wife.

yeah not as dramatic as I was expecting.

At least we did get a final confrontation stan vs. philip & elizabeth

overall I think it was a decent way to wrap the show.

Yeah, was a little underwhelmed with the finale at first, after some time to digest it, I guess it was alright as far as finales go. I'm a bit annoyed at not knowing about stans wife, and what the kids futures looked like, and why Phillip never met his Russian son, etc etc etc. But in way if the finale wrapped up absolutely everything neatly I suppose that would be a bit cliche and lame.

In any case, great show, will probably go down as the GOAT underrated show.

Yea, it was a pretty good ending. But Elizabeth is not in trouble with Russia for what she did?

Holy cow.

The entire series built toward that confrontation between Stan and the Jennings in the garage. And it did not disappoint.

GOAT show.

Who would Elizabeth be in trouble with? She was defending the Soviet government from a bunch of rogue agents. And presumably only Claudia even knows she killed Tatiana. If Claudia revealed this to the Soviet government, she would be exposing herself as part of the plot to take down the government.

I was slightly worried when Phillip and Elizabeth were at the Soviet passport stop that they would encounter someone who was also connected with the rogue agents. But once they hook up with Arkady you pretty much know they are safe.

Overall, I thought the finale was fantastic. Obviously the garage and train scenes were among the best I've ever seen on TV. But I also thought the Renee "resolution" was perfect. It doesn't actually matter whether Renee is a spy, just that Stan now suspects her, and that Phillip's final gesture of "friendship" has likely ruined Stan's life even more regardless of the truth.

Paraphrasing. “Of course we don’t kill people.” The other final manipulation of Stan (though I think the Renee motivation was friendship).

I don't think I even considered the possibility of them getting away and just ending back in Russia. Feel like it was under-whelming, yet I still almost had that lump in my throat feeling for the entire last hour.

Think I would have like to have seen something more conclusive (Stan, his wife, Paige, Oleg), even if it was just one of those things where they write on the screen what happened with the rest of their lives.

Was hoping for defection, but still just as depressing as if one of them died or was caught and almost just as punishing for them to have to live out the rest of their lives without their children in a country that probably feels foreign to them now.

Edit: Also curious if that's some sort of record for consecutive minutes without dialogue in a season finale.

Netflix will pick it up and it will continue with Stan and his wife taking over for Philip and Elizabeth.

Thought it was a great ending and I liked how they left some things unsettled.

I thought Phil might have been distracting while Elizabeth pulled a gun and shot Stan. Was a tense scene. You guys know Elizabeth and Phil are married in real life right?

Loved it. I choked up a bit when Paige appeared on the platform. I hope Oleg gets out somehow, I love that guy.

Predictions (not much thought put into this-just fun shoots and grins).

[0]Philip-Dies saving Liz and/or kids not dead
[1/2] Liz-Lives in witness protection w kids alive
[1/2] Paige and Henry--Live but Paige kills someone (please)--many the guy Liz slept with alive, Paige kept her murder cherry, just realized that the lie about "we don't kill people" was for Paige as well as Stan, but she knows its BS

[1/4] Stan Lives but disgraced, Kills Philip Well he's alive
[0] Adderholt-dies (black guy trope) Great interrogation scene
[1/4] Stan's wife, lives-really is a spy revealed in late scene that has nothing to do with the rest of the episode viewer's imagination

[3/4] Oleg dies saving Elizabeth not dead, but looks like a lifer
[0] Old lady spy-dies after killing Adderholt at least she left Vodka behind

[1] Pastor Tim--not in final episode (dammit) at least he was in an epsidode, sadly he is alive and Paige did not kill him BUT one can imagine....

I loved it. The soundtrack (brothers in arms and then I still haven’t found what I’m looking for) was perfect, and the lengthy wordless climax was perfect.

I'm pretty content with the ending. Definitely not the bloodbath I expected.

Is this a top 10 drama all-time?

I personally would have a hard time putting more than a few ahead of it.

I was definitely expecting someone (Stan) to die in that garage scene. Was waiting for Elizabeth to pull her gun out and shoot him quickly. Did not expect a) Philip/Elizabeth to try to talk themselves out of it rather than choosing violence and b) stan to buy it and let them leave. I thought once he knew the truth, it would’ve been way too far for him to let them go, and even moreso for them to think he would let them go, rather than going with something violent right when he showed up. Since he came by himself and was outnumbered, I really thought they’d kill him. Or if he didn’t want to shoot them, he could’ve just shot a tire out of the car

I thought it ended well. The moment with Elizabeth seeing Paige outside the train was crazy. I’m glad they left henry there. It sucks for Oleg. I’m also fine with not revealing whether stan’s wife is a spy or not. It almost felt like he was just resigned and had nothing else in his life, so he didn’t even care if she was, like he would stay with her either way just so he could have someone.

I do think henry would turn out fine, but when Paige made the decision to stay I was wondering what the hell her plan could be. Then I realized they never actually revealed that she’s done any spy stuff so I guess she could be ok. Just seems like she’ll either have to live in hiding, or have a big encounter with the fbi at some point. However, her life probably would’ve sucked in Russia, so this might’ve been best for her.

It kinda sucked how they got caught though. Was that father Andre guy in the show before the previous episode? It felt like they didn’t necessarily do anything wrong to get caught, other than being absent during thanksgiving. It was kind of anticlimactic that they were completely ****ed all of a sudden (I watched the last two episodes together so I’m reacting to both right now/don’t totally remember what happened in which).

Overall, this last season was good. Very good. But I don’t know if it made up for how slow all the other seasons were. We were always waiting for the payoff, and finally got it, but I’m just not sure if it was enough. Like idk if I would recommend someone watch this series from start to finish. I get that it was high quality, and some episodes were fantastic. But I just remember complaining so much during the middle seasons when nothing was happening and it wasn’t always easy to follow. So the last season was good, the first season was good, I'm just not sure if it was worth all the middle seasons.

I mean Stan really can’t let them go. There’s no reason to believe anything they’re saying. Like that Philip had quit, or that it’s in the US’s best interest for them to pass the message along. He’s been getting played for years (a decade?), then finally figured it out and has them, then let’s them talk their way out of it? That really can’t happen. I was shocked the entire time they were walking back to their car and he had to step aside so they could drive past, while he’s still holding a gun. He’s dedicated his whole life to the fbi and Philip/Elizabeth have directly ****ed that over so many times. I still can’t believe that their friendship would override his obvious duty as an FBI agent here. These are not innocent people, and he knows it. That’s why I thought the garage scene had to end in violence

Also it’s nice that no one else walked in during this lengthy conversation at gunpoint lol

Well, if you can dismember a body in a garage with no one discovering you....

He's the priest that marries them in season 5 which is how he knows what they really look like, and before that Philip met with Andre once as his handler after Gabriel left.

The garage scene got to me, I really felt for Stan, after not really considering his feelings the entire run of the show. Losing his best friend (never mind any feelings of betrayal), knowing how much this will hurt Henry (who Stan obviously loves), and the cherry on it is Stan will now be suspicious of his wife for the rest of his life. I just felt crushed for him, and I really never cared much for his character.

I could disagree with you in many more words, but it really comes down to this:

The show was, at heart, about the marriage of Philip and Elizabeth, and the choices they made within that marriage. Not being able to remember their ceremony with Father Andre and why it was a big deal is such a fundamental misunderstanding of what was happening that it's not surprising the series didn't resonate with you.

That Dire Straits song - had flashback to West Wing, Two Cathedrals season finale. It's definitely got that dramatic epic finale sort of vibe to it.

That panic moment when the girl with the thing on her lip saw her daughter out the window as the train pulled out - duuude.
