Being the best of the worst doesn't make you good.

Hey guys. Long time lurker, once in a blue poster.
Agree with most in this thread that this season is pretty terribad compared to most seasons. It's like a curse, every 3rd season is pure crap.

I auditioned for the show a few times, getting to Simon once and for those who don't know, what you see on tv as the "first audition" is far from it. The judges only see about 1/2% of all who try out. The auditioning process even leading up to that is very long and exhausting. Major props to the kids on this show for not having breakdowns considering the stress they're under.

Reason I'm posting is that I had a chance to check out the rehearsal taping today for the first time and the one thing that really stood out to me is that the performances in person are fantastic. There is something major that is not translated over when we watch it on tv. The music is much fuller, clearer, and the singing is excellent. Except for Lee, of course, a deaf man could tell he's pitchy, dawg. Still a very good performance, though. But all of them really brought it, only Aaron and Tim were a bit meh.

Oh, and Siobhan is crazy hot in person.

And we had to applaud for Sullenberger a thousand ****ing times. FML

I always figured there must be a pre-audition on those early shows since it isn't really mathematically possible for the judges to see them all

I don't think my Casey LL over Lee is going to pay out anymore. Still don't understand the love for Lee though I do think he has improved a lot the last month. Mostly just in terms of confidence. Don't like his voice though. Sounds like generic rock voice.

Am I the only one who didn't really like Lee? I don't see what he did with the song that was so special, and don't think his voice sounded as good as it has in previous weeks.

Whoever said Siobhan needs to sing some rock songs is dead on imo. I'm sure she likes these diva staples, but they don't suit her at all and it feels like she's trying to please and put on a pleasant performance rather than being herself. She also hasn't been weird or quirky for weeks now, which is troubling (I blame the Idol stylists).

Crystal was the best of the night again. She made it look like nobody else was even trying. Mike, Casey, and Tim can all GTFO and I'm pretty sure they will in succession the next three weeks.

Didnt enjoy anyone's performances last night, but Tim was by far the worst, although my man Casey didn't show up at all. Hoping Tim finally goes tonight.

I think I am a special snowflake for being on Crystal's bandwagon since she first auditioned.

I think Simon is on Lee's testicles because he knows Lee will be making a record that actually sells, unlike the rest(besides Crystal).

What I wonder though is what are the obligations of the contestants after Idol is over? Meaning if u finish X Idol can sign u for X years ( X amount etc etc etc. Anyone?

No one is under any obligation except for the winner, which is why I've thought it was better for Adam Lambert that he didn't win because now he can do anything he wants and doesn't have to do it Simon's way.

they might not be obligated for long but im pretty sure "AI-approved labels" (IE corporations with deals already set up with the AI producers) are the only ones that they allow the contestants to even talk to before the tour is over... and in that light id guess 9/10 of the performers jump on that label. I doubt most of them hold out for something "better". I mean AI made these people profitable, they're going to protect that investment as much as possible.

Yep. Lee is like a soft rock band singer/acoustic player that are always around on the charts (Goo Goo Dolls, Hootie, etc). It's usually fairly cheesy, but it sells.

I think he may actually be in a position to win if he can take all the teen girl votes. Apparently his level of noise on Twitter and the blogs is crazy.

I thought pretty much everyone sucked last night, so no ranking.
