i think the judges confused him w/ the need a big surprise immed. that song choice was surprising as hell but it didn't work too well (except for the end) b/c it really made it look like he was trying too hard.
he's obv not a favorite to win anymore, but id be really amazed if he gets sent him home before top 12
This. I mean people always talk about Straight up like that's the only type of thing he can do. But go back to his audition. Dude can sing, he killed that Sunday Morning song and it was one of the best auditions of the season. Like they said..it was a really hard song to sing in that atmosphere and he pulled it off "very excellent" as Randy said. He also sang Adele - Chasing pavements really well in Hollywood week.
I mean you def. gotta give it to him just for being brave enough to make such a friggin bold song choice. Judges always talk about how "no one will remember that performance" well whether they liked it or not anyone who watched idol is gonna remember that a
dude sang genie in a bottle by christina aguilera. That said I kinda disagree with the judges saying it was a good song choice. I mean, there's soooo many songs he could have picked to make a WOW-ing performance out of that were better than this. When I glanced over the song list right when Idol started I was just like...wat, why???
IMO he could have just done something like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-8nkkOA_AM (Outkast - Hey Ya Acoustic cover) which is something that suits him well and is definitely in his vocal range to knock right out of the park. Something like this would have given him like a 95% success rate on a good - great performance and is something that would capture a "moment" from the first note.
Shorten the arrangement and add the chorus outro and bam you have an epic performance and you're a lock for the top 12 and once again a favorite to win. Instead you go with such an out there song like Genie in a bottle which just simply has too much of a chance of being a miss. So in conclusion, props for a bold and brave song choice but it was a bad song choice. Also with the straight up performance you got a real tasteful and classy vibe from it. You watch it and you're like damn that's dope. Everything from the idea to the arrangement to the vocal. Definitely don't get that vibe with genie in a bottle...like damn dude, wtf why christina aguilera?! If he was gonna do some crazy **** like that at least go with someone current. Sigh...the only reason I watched the show this year was cause of this dude tbh but it looks like my idol days are numbered.
