just cause he has a big range doesn't mean he can sing any of these other notes well.

at least michael sings the notes he sings well.

Casey has a small range and can't even sing those well.

Errr, my mistake. Shes behind Daughtry and Lambert. Biggest female range though.

Just say she can sing the highest note and we will agree with you.

that's the whole point though, she DOESN'T have the biggest range of females.

sure she can hit that high note really well, but go and watch her sing Any Man of Mine.

At the lower end, she was brutal.

range is high and low

i think its kind of funny that people itt think that the "one week to perfect a song" schedule of AI is anything like a real recording artist.

imo they should have each contestant announce all of the songs they would potentially do before even trying out.

i think it's kind of funny that you think that would even be feasible.

why not? why couldn't they be allowed to pick their last say 10-15 performances ahead of time? Obviously there's going to be some tweaks from the producers when needed but i just think it would be really cool to see these guys do songs they've perfected. Have you seen any of Andrew's/crystal's youtube stuff?....its better than whats been on the show imo. I think a couple months of practice would change the results considerably and would be a lot more indicative of a real performance artist's career.

this season is pretty boring for the most part...there is literally no one left who is interesting or memorable for that matter...I honestly think Katie Stevens was the only person in the final 12 with an actual personality...and also big mike but he has shown himself to be really arrogant and annoying.

I'm not wrong, I just disagree with your premise. You are saying she has the biggest range, and I'm saying, she has a large range, but if she is in the lower part of the range she sounds like garbage.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm saying her range isn't great because she can't sing well from the top to the bottom of her range.

Take someone like Prince. He has an amazing falsetto, but can also hit those awesome baritones.

My point is, when she is singing super high, it sounds good, when she sings "man I feel like a woman" it sounds brutal

The Hip....

these performances have been practiced for less than a week....if you think they are any indication of the performers actual singing talent then you have very little performance or musical experience.

I'm in a band, so this is pretty much false. We are all good to very good musicians, so we can practice a song 3 times on a wednesday and play it friday, and no one would know we've only played it 4 times in our life.

Same for the Idol band, they learn up to 24 songs in a week, and they are always amazing.

the singers have to learn 90 seconds of some song in a week. I really feel it WIDENS the gap between the good singers and the mediocre singers.

Look at David Cook and Lambert, week in and week out gave another great performance. You look at someone like Aaron, week in and week out gives another boring twangy performance.

I agree when you get into a studio you have more time with the song and they can add effects and what not, but that doesn't improve their voice, it just hides it

I would...and so would anyone else with a discernable ear. Just to make sure...you're saying that it doesnt make a different if you have a week or a month to learn a song...if you're good they'll both sound the same right? I dont think you thought about that very well before saying it.

learning and arranging a vocal solo is harder than learning an instrumental...and none of us have any idea how the band practices or how the songs are picked so lets not assume. Not to mention those are studio musicians with about 20 years more experience than all the contestants. If I had to venture a guess id say the band practices 8+ hours a day all week.

this is a very small part of what they have to do each week (commercials, interviews ect.) and you're taking a really big liberty by saying that the ability of a performer picking up something quick vs. a perfect performance is how to judge someones overall talent. yes you can have an opinion, but it doesnt mean you're factually right just because you say so lol.

neither of these two gave great performances every week. No one has...the only one that comes close is Crystal Bowersox.

I know that if you practice for a month it will sound better than if you practice for 2 days.

I just mean, if you are a great singer, you are going to be good no matter what, and if you are an average singer, no matter what, you won't be amazing.

Take casey for example, give him a month, he will still have the same garbled tone he always does, cause thats his voice.

Yes i have recorded in a studio.

Just to be clear, I am agreeing with you on the time frame, my only contention is, people that are really good singers can give really good performances only practicing it for two days. Give that same really good singer 3 months with the song, and it will become amazing.
