This show isn't good enough to lick the sweat off of Arrow's balls

Is there any backstory I should know that may enhance the "enjoyment" of this? Or am I fine having just jumped in cold?

I think the Tomorrow People has much more promise than SHIELD at this point.

Coulson is the agent from Avengers, Thor, and the Iron Man movies who represents SHIELD. He was "killed" in Avengers but he thinks he was revived in Tahiti. He must never learn the truth (though I would guess the viewers will eventually learn the truth).

Other characters are fairly generic. Sky is the hacker chick who was brought in from an underground organization called Rising Tide. We still don't know if she's a good girl or a bad girl.

May was apparently a highly regarded field agent who no longer wanted to work in the field, but changed her mind in the third episode.

Ward is the generic muscle of the show

Fitz and Simmons are the generic science nerds of the show.

Nah, we know Sky is the good girl who's going to betray the team and then come to regret her decision and join the team for real.

Or maybe she dies next episode. Lol Whedon.

Simmons dying seems most likely though.

Or, since this Marvel, becoming a super villain.

jezus people are mad in here, its a very fun show for now, and it could get alot better.

not to mention all the jokes work, i think its very difficult to have a semi serious show with jokes like this. Whedon seems to be able to pull it of consistently.

I guess people were expecting something different maybe? Like the avengers the show. I guess people who dont like it also didnt like angel and firefly? Or maybe it has to do with the fact that its based on a comic. So i can see it would be bad if it didnt stay true to the comics or whatever.

Yeah I'm quite surprised at all the negativity itt, I've quite enjoyed it so far and it's one of the first I watch when it comes out.

Actually I've never seen the show. I just came in to see if I should give it a watch and saw AlexM defending it like a wounded momma bear defending it's cub and decided to rustle some jimmies. I'm pretty sure at least a couple others are doing the same thing.

Generic 130pound low bodyfat pretty boy passed as someone who magically could best 10 big guys who trained MMA for 10+years and can teach the same skills to a 105pound girl+30pound breasts in a few weeks.

It feels like Spartacus. Second actor weighting at 130pound just killed any parts surrounding his character.

Do not besmirch the greatness of firefly by comparing it to this god awful show. Comparing Firefly to Shield is like comparing ice cream to cow manure.

Yeah, that explains the popularity of soap operas.

Too much cheeziness: main guy dives through the fence at the last second in slow motion. Fight scenes feel like they're straight out of the 80s, and wtf was up with that music they were playing during the fight scene. Not enough substance, felt like they had 20 minutes of good material and the rest was filler, 24 could have made an entire season out of the subplot from the third episode. And I'm already annoyed with the subplots of hacker chick being on the fence between SHIELD and tide, and the super-soldier pilot chick demanding she not see action (wtf is up with that in the first place?).

This is the new A-Team with a bigger budget but still has that 80's cheeze factor.

A bit, but I didn't mind it too much. I did mind the attempts at one-liner humor that have yet to come close to hitting. Coulson can do it well, but the rest can't.

i really don't think it's that bad. i think once they get a multi-episode story arc going it could pick up a bit.

I doubt Joss Whedon is really involved in the show going forward. He's an executive producer but that's just because he basically is Marvel at this point. It's his brother's show. He hasn't had a writing credit since the pilot and I'd be surprised if he had more than one more for the entire season with a possibility of none.

The show is fine so far though. I think it'll improve as they get some recurring villains going. Graviton and whoever was controlling the people in this episode both have potential.

This was certainly a much better episode than the previous three. They've set up their big bad for the season and Graviton is lurking out there somewhere. And we still don't know what's the deal with Coulson's resurrection. Now the writers will be able to do more than just focus on monster of the week episodes. If they can flesh out their characters a little better there may be hope for this show yet.

I was hoping Akilah was going to join the team as the new muscle (the result of Grant's untimely demise). I suspect we will see more of her in future episodes. Knowing Whedon, I also anticipate the death of either Fitz or Simmons before the end of the season, allowing the surviving Wonder Twin to undergo a character transformation from geeky, quirky scientist to bad ass team member (similar to Wesley's arc in Angel) or super villain.

I feel conflicted, Graviton is one of my favorite Marvel villains, but I really didn't like that premiere and don't think Clark Gregg is good enough to be a lead.

Okay, that one did get me a little. It's the one-liners that aren't really doing it for me.

Its not too bad tbh, def worth watching for Skye and Simmons alone. Theres also a few buffy-style decent dialogue moments but they seem pretty rare atm.
