characters like aaron pierce, logan, renee, audrey, buchanan were all kinda gimmicky, one trick pony characters

george mason, nina, sherry, novick, edgar were dynamic, great, tragic and unpredictable at the same time.

Agree with Pierce. For the first few seasons, Pierce was just a generic Secret Service agent who happened to have a name. It was only when Logan became President that he finally came out on his own.

As for the 'great' characters you listed, I think everyone agrees that Nina was an incredible villain. And her CTU support character was pretty good also. I don't think Edgar was a great character, though.

Mason is underrated. Great season 1 run as the CTU honcho you love to hate, only to turn it around in season 2 with his great send off.

This season she ignored orders, pulled a gun on the NSA guy and barricaded herself in the server room and Hastings response to all this was to say words to the effect of "Hang on a minute, let's see how this plays out". Give me a break..
You must hate Jack.

dude jabriel's posts are horrible Chloe has saved Jack and America many times and the reason she doesn't follow orders is because except Hastings and Buchanan every CTU director has been an idiot.

But why does she always look so constipated?

It's strange, I can watch Jack shrug off stabbings, gunshot wounds, torture and fatigue all in in a matter of hours and not bat an eyelid, but the second Chloe steps out of line I go on crazy monkey tilt.

unbluffable, I never denied Chloe is talented. She is obviously a techy genius. However, not once in the past 5 seasons has she ever been in a position of command (until the latest episode). In the real word no boss can have unmanageable rouges in his team disregarding orders and compromising his leadership. Whether she is right or wrong, deliberately disobeying orders brings the system into disrepute..that can't happen. Even if she did this and later proved to be right, she would still be reprimanded after the fact and warned not to do so again if she values her job.

The difference with Jack on this issue is either a) he was running CTU or b) he was freelancing, thus he usually didn't have a direct superior to answer to (other than the President, who you will notice he always obeyed). And anyway, ignoring this fact, the show already has one unmanageable rouge that's always right in Bauer, another one in Chloe is just pushing it.

lol that your argument is based around "In the real world".

The show needs to have some sense of reality. It's just the issue that grinds my gears more than any other (because she's such a smarmy, patronizing bitch). At least the other departures are made in the interest of entertainment..

Chloe.

I actually really like where this season is at now after the last episode (although my dreams of a Renee Walker spinoff have been dashed). I'm willing to forgive all the ridiculousness it took to get here.

I'm a huge Chloe fan, but the recent development is surprising, considering at the beginning of the day she was presented as slow due to all the new CTU technology.

Re-watching season 2 now. So good. The scene when Palmer cries is incredible.

So pumped for the mass genocide that should happen tonight. Unfortunately they might fill the episode with nothing but details about the Russians/Logan and wait until next week for Jack Bauer 3.0.

Same here, tonight is going to be so epic. I would consider anything less than 50 kills by a rampaging Jack to be a disappointment.

pretty interesting turn of events, sucks big time that jack is being "shut down", something has to (and will imo) happen so that he can go on his rampage

Okay, why the hell didn't Chloe put WAY more security on Jack? Seriously, you've known him for how long now and didn't see that coming?

Even when running CTU, he had someone to answer to (District, Division, etc.) The very first episode of the series, Jack tranquilized George Mason. The first episode of the second season, he shoots a witness and decapitates him, when merely asked to question him.

More season 1 thoughts:

* Teri's amnesia was just as bad as I remembered it.

* The Palmer's son subplot got a lot better than it was in the beginning. Especially since it was the start of Sherri's turn from supportive wife to manipulative b***h.

* In fact, Palmer's son storyline carried the show since the rescue. Jack has not really been interesting since then.
