Damn, for all the garbage I've caught in this thread, I am so tempted to list a 12 pack of Bic Ball Point Pens for the low low price of $12 million right now. Hell, I might even knock off a hundred grand if someone asks real nice.
FWIW, I always knew there was some small premium offering these at $335 here. I figured if the fees on eBay roll in between $25 and $30 and I could sell the passes on there for $350, I'd net $320 to $325 before Paypal fees. The benefit I had in mind for the 2+2 buyer is that at $335, they save $10 or $15 a ticket and I'd make about that much more than I would have once eBay fees were figured in selling at $350 gross.
Additionally, I would have come down a little below the $335 as well. I have never once seen a thread on 2+2 where people didn't consistently want to lowball everything, so I gave myself a little wiggle room to move if a deal presented itself, especially if someone wanted to buy more than one. Although, I did have some PM nibbles at the $335 figure, a 2+2 deal never really materialized, so I decided to go to plan B, eBay.
One thing that I haven't mentioned before this is that every one of the people that bought these passes either already has or will save around $200 or so at the minimum. Three of them have already flown, and at the rates they were looking at paying for last minute fares, they saved a ton. If I had to guess, I'd say that altogether the 4 people who bought the passes will wind up saving in the neighborhood of $1000-$1200 collectively. The value in these things has always been the ability to go anywhere SWA goes with no restrictions, no blackouts, and no need to book months in advance. One of the most irritating things about this thread has always been the constant apples vs. oranges comparisons that people wanted to make.
1. robert's constant whining about craigslist vs. eBay. I don't know how many of you guys have ever bought anything on craigslist, but it is so hit or miss that even comparing the two things is just plain silly. Beyond that, his consistent lying about even the prices on eBay was just laugable.
2. dacarter's one time miracle purchase on craigslist which he never bothered to elaborate on. Assuming that he was telling the truth (not something I'm willing to do), all that does is illustrate that if you are willing to do a bunch of legwork and hunt for a great deal, you MIGHT find one. Then again, you might wind up wasting a ton of time trying to catch a miracle that you could just as easily have bought whatevere it is you'r elooking for in the first place.
3. gaffon's booking a seat 3 month's in advance during a non peak travel part of the year in the middle of the week and saving himself a whopping $50 over what I was asking for. You da man. Hello, Ms. Apples. Have you met my friend Mr. Oranges?
4. JHair with his ******ed regional airline and $800 iPhone comments. Again, apples vs. oranges.
Lastly, 5. Meester Stotch with his $12MM pens. WTF, dude. The market for these things is easily documentable at $350/ea., so when I offer them at $335, somehow I'm price gouging? Are you the same pinhead who rolls into a Mercedes dealership and whines about how you can't afford their cars? Nevermind they've been getting their asking price for years, somehow when you can't buy one, it's a mistake?
