3/6 online home game. It’s a soft game, no one is very good but V is better than average, probably break even due to rake. Has some light 3 bets and bluffs compared to most, but he’s still on the passive side. I don’t have a large sample on him.

I open CO for pot with 9887 no hearts, V 3 bets BB for pot.

Flop: 843 all hearts.

V 1/2 pot I call.

Turn 9x. We have 1.25x pot behind.

V pots it.

H? Seems like a clear shove?

Any advice on how to go about studying this spot would be appreciated. Hold em is easy because I can look at equilab or pokercruncher and assign him a range and check my equity against that range, not sure if that’s possible with PLO given the number of combos. Is it possible to really study these spots without a solver? Do I just need to keep playing and just eyeball what kind of ranges people show up with?

we win with 9 cards, know 8, 42 left so 9:33 or around 3.75:1 against filling up. We are getting what 1.75:1.

so let's say pot is $100 and and we need to call $125. finally pot will be 350 and we are going to return $73. so we still need another $47. so if villain is bluffing 30% of the time we break even? i have no idea if I did that correctly. how many bbs were u guys playing to start? since that will greatly impact what sort of hands villain is 3 betting vs co open and how likely he is to end up with like a dry ace or king here.

Polarizing bet here, right.... Either nuts or Ah dry bluff. How likely is a passive player going to bluff here? If he is balanced enough to play the nut flush and Ah dry the same way, I would say you can call here enough to be profitable but we all know that most players are far from balanced.
However, GTO sizing does call for 1/2 pot sized bets on the flop on a monotone board. When he is 3b light, is it almost always with DS hands? If so, his range is extremely made flush heavy with very few combos of bad AA or ss AA.

It is hard to calculate 20% bluffs etc. The only way I know how to calculate this would be to assign a % range preflop.... lets say 30% (we can play around with this based on your reads) and add the Ah.

Omaha Hi Simulation ?
2,036,360 trials (Exhaustive)
board: 8h4h3h9d
Hand Equity Wins
9s8s8d7c 67.85%
30%, Ah 32.15%

If we think his preflop range is tighter and closer to 15%, our equity actually go down b/c he is going to have more ds Ax combos.

Omaha Hi Simulation
1,304,360 trials (Exhaustive)
board: 8h4h3h9d
Hand Equity Wins
9s8s8d7c 65.97%
15%, Ah 34.03%

Assuming we have 65%+ equity and we are getting 1.8 to 1, I think we have a call.

If anyone has another way of calculating this, please let me know. I would be interested too.

Studying PLO is much different than NLH. Blockers are very important, often just as important as hand strength. Very rarely will we be calling this turn without a heart blocker. Blocking a 9 also makes me lean towards folding.

I'm folding here 100% of the time unless this guy is a maniac.

Does bare Ah really pot the turn here? You think they'd bet 60% pot or something along those lines.

I don’t remember exactly how deep we were and it was on pokerbros so I don’t have the hand history. Had to reconstruct it from memory.

Thanks for the help guys. I decided to toss in the call and was good vs AhAxXxXx. I figured this is like the worst hand I should be calling off here given that I do have top set on the flop, blocker to top set on the turn, but I don’t have a heart blocker. I’m obviously just guessing though, I definitely felt like the call could be torching.
