Well, it's subjective, for some people they can probably make their fortune, then never worry about $ again and dedicate their whole lives to pursuits they find enjoyable and fulfilling.
But I think for most people, it is never enough, and they constantly are trying to get more to be able to guarantee themselves a luxurious retirement, buy another mansion, lambo, yacht or private jet, try to get back the many millions they may have lost in a divorce settlement or stock market, give more $ to their family and friends, make more $ to give to charity they feel strongly about, etc.
There are a lot of miserable millionaires and billionaires out there, + a lot of very happy people making 40 or 50k/yr.
The quote is not saying $ won't make you happy, just that if you think $ alone can make you happy you're sorely mistaken.
I mean I guess when you explain I can see why you think it's dumb (it's a bit like, "You need to keep eating food to survive, so no matter how much you eat in a meal, you will always be hungry again"), but it's not like I think it's some profound, brilliant, 100% accurate piece of wisdom, just thought it was a cool quote from a music legend that had a lot of truth in it.
