I dont realize how is hard for someone to understand the saying...

(1) Money is numbers -- True
(2) Numbers never end -- True

now he asks If it takes money for someone to be happy

his search for happiness will never end (1) and (2) make this also True

because if at some point its gonna be enough you are not searching money you are searching something else... a house...a car or whatever

saying is very very clear you - not being a clueless moron - should be able to understand it

Maybe he just disagrees with it?
To be fair I feel like people getting rich always aim for more.
Moarmoarmoar
And if they are obsessed with it of course they are looking forward to reach a goal that is unattainable. Thus they are not going to be happy.

Of course, ad verbatim it is a non-sequitor, but if you read just a little between the lines you can easily derive meaning from the statement.

Again, now you can agree or disagree on that statement...but calling it clueless does not seem accurate (cf crashwhips' posts).

Well, it's subjective, for some people they can probably make their fortune, then never worry about $ again and dedicate their whole lives to pursuits they find enjoyable and fulfilling.

But I think for most people, it is never enough, and they constantly are trying to get more to be able to guarantee themselves a luxurious retirement, buy another mansion, lambo, yacht or private jet, try to get back the many millions they may have lost in a divorce settlement or stock market, give more $ to their family and friends, make more $ to give to charity they feel strongly about, etc.

There are a lot of miserable millionaires and billionaires out there, + a lot of very happy people making 40 or 50k/yr.

The quote is not saying $ won't make you happy, just that if you think $ alone can make you happy you're sorely mistaken.

I mean I guess when you explain I can see why you think it's dumb (it's a bit like, "You need to keep eating food to survive, so no matter how much you eat in a meal, you will always be hungry again"), but it's not like I think it's some profound, brilliant, 100% accurate piece of wisdom, just thought it was a cool quote from a music legend that had a lot of truth in it.

"If it takes money to be happy, your search for happiness will never end"

This part of the quote just sounds really dumb. Obviously due to the way the world works no one is going to be happy with no money. 99.9999% anyway.

It's obvious what Bob means, money does not equal happiness etc, but he says something completely different, which does kinda make it a terrible saying as db said. It sounds like something someone says who is trying really hard to be profound.

Pretty sure if one of your friends said this you would laugh at them, but people like it cos it was said by Bob Marley.

Yeah fair enough, I personally don't think it's dumb just bc it makes sense symmetry wise in context w/ the 1st part of it + I've never heard that type of concept phrased like that, but I get your pt.

And yeah, the saying definitely had a lot more impact on me bc it was a meme/quote w/ a stoner music legend rather than for example this:

+1

Edit: tho not sure I should be the one to+1 since I'm the most guilty of doing the over analyzing

its because real happiness its not about how many things you have, how much money you have in the bank, etc. thats what society is teaching us or what is trying to make us think, you can see now a days we are ****ing everything up, we are killing our planet and its done by the same people that think that money equals happiness. Basically an ego driven way of thinking ($=ego).

life is about compassion, love, family, friends, goals, dreams and and now more than ever preserving human race, society is not achieving most of this things atm and this will drive human life as we know it to seize existing.

when you die you cant take any of the material things you accumulated, you take the love, the compassion you gave, the people you helped and/or everything that made your spirit grow in energy. Money dries your soul, unless you use it to travel, help others, follow dreams or buy things for your hobbies :P
