i think that, whilst dogs are awesome anyway, they are especially good for poker players who can otherwise easily exist with absolutely no structure or responsibility to their lives (i prob feel older after that than any other sentence ive ever written). my two boys act as alarm clocks, cheerleaders, and tilt eliminators rolled into one (im convinced its an absolute truth that no level of tilt can withstand playing with a dog for even a couple of minutes).
since we're posting dog brag pics, here are mine. they are litter brothers - if you feel able, id strongly recommend getting two, their quality of life is vastly improved if they have a playmate around.
Nice dogs wazz, insyder, and validated, what breeds are they?
One of my great regrets in life is that I have never owned a dog, well-trained and friendly dogs are so awesome to be around. The only reason I haven't done so yet (well, aside from the fact the process of getting one takes initiative and seems stressful + that it makes traveling more difficult), is that the idea of cleaning up their piss, sh_t, and vomit seems like a disgusting thing to have to do on a regular basis and also a good way to wreck the place you're living in.
Also, I've already told people this a bunch of times in the ssplo forum, but just fyi this is crashwhips, I keep forgetting pw to main acct and using this one instead. I'll reset my pw via email and start posting on my original acct next time I log on 2p2 tho
mine are dachshunds, halfway between miniature and regular sized.
fwiw with regard to cleaning up after them, what happened with me is what i assume happens with parents and their children - you love them so much, so quickly, that the distaste you instinctively have is massively reduced. then, after not very long, it becomes habit and you just get on with it.
as for wrecking the place, its ingrained in dachshunds to dig, so we've had some displaced plants, some ripped up carpets, etc etc. their curiosity means they'll also take and tear up anything we leave within reach (and believe me, that means more than you might think -they're cunning little things). birthday cards, dvds, you name it, my boys have destroyed them. do i care? not really, they're just things, and whilst i like living in a nice house, id rather live in a completely trashed dump with my two boys than in a palace without them. palaces dont curl up with you on the sofa watching tv, or jump around in uncontrollable excitement when you return after going somewhere for five minutes.
(im not sure if that all comes over a little preachy - if ppl need things in their life to be just-so all the time then go for it, im just saying that as someone who was somewhat that way before my wife convinced me to get a dog, they're generally so lovable that you adapt faster than you might think).
