I just got here, but I have to admit I'm surprised at many of the responses. I saw not a single response that talked about looking ahead at likely situations, and choosing your decision now based on how well this Hero can expect to do in those situations.

If you play poorly after the flop, its a disaster to play hands that flop marginal hands in big pots. You should then avoid marginal hands and avoid big pre-flop pots (excepting of course with AA getting close to all in). If you find yourself in a game where they play better and nobody is going to make the huge call with the 3rd nut flush against you, then you might as well find another game.

If you play well after the flop, meaning the money doesn't scare you, your "evaluate" quickly, and you have a good idea of the opponents "ranges", then that changes how you play early.

One cannot say "you should play this way" to everybody, since there are lots of identical situations where one hero could raise and another is best to fold.

I'm in that camp where I don't think I play after the flop all that well; so I'm stuck in "nut" mode or "all in marginally" mode. Playing QJ94 is out of the question for me, even if some of the real Heroes here can play it. But those same Heroes should not advise that everybody should play it.
