nowadays its obvious poker is on decline. seems everyday day plo tables lose lots of players, both pros and amateurs are stoping to play plo online.

do you think game will be running in 2020 (not that far, only 3-4years) ?

''running'', i mean, more or less like its nowadays, tough tables for sure, but 25/50 will be still running and the best players having chance to win decent $ ? or maybe stars close tables up to 10/20 ? what about midstakes, 2/5 zoom still avaliable ? and small stakes, with super huge rake ?

i doubt . many people stop to play, both pros and amateurs, rake increase every month... i have a felling that poker online is sinking and game won't be running in couple years, but maybe im too pessmistc.

Poker will be around until the 1st article in Wall Street Journal (or something similar) with a title that states something like "Every 3rd poker player online is a robot".
After an article like that most of the recreational players will just stop playing. Pretty much the same thing happened in chess and backgammon.
I personally think that we have only couple of years more until bots will completely ruin the industry.

Who knows man? It really depends on Stars for sure.
How can they involve the eastern countries? The new generation? etc. etc. Lot of questions.
It is not black and white. Maybe i am naive but i belive that for PLO it is pretty hard to create good bots ( i say it after the big bot issue in last year. Anyway anybody knows what happened exactly? were they bots or it was some kind of collusion or what? ) Plus it is our interest as well trying to keep the field from bots.
I think the main key is at our side the adaptation. I think online poker will be in 2020 but maybe you have to play .. i dunno sixplus holdem or spin&go or .. a new form of poker. but the key is that you have to adapt if you want to live from poker in 2020.

poker has so much variance that there will always be people that can delude themselves into thinking they have an edge even playing gto bots with massive rake

in chess even a grandmaster is drawing dead vs a bot, and backgammon historically always had soulcrushing rake that would pretty much guarantee that two regs would never play each other online even at best of times, let alone now

i traveled to the future and came back... everyone was broke and no games were running except urubu sitting 200/400 waiting for people to flip with him (he had busted every other high stakes reg)

I'll consider myself lucky if PLO is still profitable at meaningful stakes at 2020. Between site operators trying to maximize profits on one side and AI programmers on the other, poker pros are bound to get squeezed out sooner or later. I'd like to think that PLO 6max is a little more AI-resistant than other games (no single nash equilibrium + large game tree), but we've already seen bots decimate 6max at low stakes presumably using knowledge-based AI.

I am not so sure about this, It wouldent help online poker thats for sure.
But right now its a lot of players that know they are not winning in the long run that still play. Also people play other games for money that no one can win in the long run in.

If its obvious to the wall street journal that 1/3 of players are bots, then it would have been obvious to the sites way before hand. Ez bans.

Yeah lots of sites let them play, but I'm sure that stance will change when and if they are a serious threat that actually would stop people from depositing.

Best case scenario: Look at the NLHE lobby and that's what it will be.
Worst case scenario: Look at the LHE lobby and that's what it will be.

The only thing stopping bots is a lack of interest; imo anyone above avg at math and comps could figure it out if they wanted, plo is just slightly more intensive than nlhe. It seems like stars is killing the game a lot faster/more effectively than bots are currently

It will be running but if nothing significant happens there will not be much traffic.

The young generation is not that interested in basic card games. Nowadays youn kids play other things on their phones and tablets.

It is also a problem that the young generations is aware that playing without software is difficult. Also the most people have heard about problems with robots. You don`t need to make a lot of poker googling or research to get the infos that scare a lot of newbies. And if you don`t find the infos yourself, there is a friend who will tell or ask you. The people know that making a living of poker isn`t that easy today.

Solutions: I think it is very important that stars thinks about ways to get rid of the bots. I think it is technically possible. Handhistories shouldn`t be available live and there shouldnt be any livetracking possible at all. Stars should move to a software that only "shows" a table. Maybe you understand what i mean. It has to be impossible for a bot to follow the action and make decisions.

Stars should also decrease rake and advertise "homegames".

Maybe stars should also think about VR-tables. Virtuals reality will be a huge thing in the future. This can be a great chance for stars. I have never been to Vegas and i don`t know if i ever will. But i am looking forward to a great Casino-expierience via VR in the future.

But at the moment the future of onlinepoker doesn`t look good imo.

100bb big bet poker needs more than 1.5bb of dead money to fight over, it is an absolute ****ing disaster at the moment, particularly at fast fold games.
